EXPLORING THE SENSE OF SMELL
'The olfactory system, anatomically, is right in the middle of the part of the brain that's very important for memory. There are strong neural connections between the two.' - Donald Wilsonn
Our 5 senses are vital in the collection, extraction and interpretation of our surroundings. Here we explore the olfactory sense (smell) which is a powerful sense linked to memory and emotion. It allows us to detect and interpret a wide variety of that which is not visible to the eye, and also plays an important role in taste, mood, and our mental health.
- The sense of smell is the first of our five senses to develop. It is magically fully formed and functioning before we are born. Studies have shown that 75% of our emotions are triggered by the sense of smell.
