Kool Kids Exercise
Get going with your children

Move it Move it
Do a fun warm-up with 1 minute of jumping jacks, 1 min of high knees and 1 min kicking your butt. Circle arms for 30 seconds in each direction, and roll the neck five times from left to right, and right to left.
Flying superman
Core workouts are great for kids. While you’ll be planking normally, start them off by having them lay on their belly, with their arms stretched out in front and legs behind. Get them to lift their arms and legs from the ground at the same time and hold that position for 10-20 seconds.
Begin with just a few repetitions and increase over time. You can turn this into a fun game to see who can hold their pose the longest.
Bear crawls
Have them crouch down with hands in front, shoulder-width apart, and feet behind them with hips up in the air. Now it’s time to crawl! Crawl 10 metres and then crawl back. Do this in timed relays of 1 minute. Set up a course around the garden to see who is the fastest bear!
Get lean with lunges
Lunges are great for helping kids work on their balance and strengthen legs. Have them step forward with one leg, and lower hips until both knees are bent at around 90 degrees, making sure their knee doesn’t go past their toes. Keep their weight in the heels, and push back to their starting position. Do these leg exercises for three sets of 20 reps.
Curl-ups
While you doing normal sit-ups, curl-ups help protect children’s spines when their muscles are weaker; they’re sit-ups, but not all the way – just have them curl their chest toward their knees. You can also get them to anchor your feet and count your reps for you if they run out of steam before your set is over.
Shake and rattle
Get them to shake their hands and jog on the spot like crazy for 20 secs bursts 3 to 4 times. Then sit down and Hum . repeat and on the final repeat lie down and watch your belly rise
Start a squat challenge
FOR THEM: The squat is a great bodyweight exercise for kids, just make sure they don’t extend past their toes as they dip their knees. Have them stand with their feet hip-width apart and slowly sink their bum down, sticking it out as if they are sitting in a chair, bending at the knees and hips. Make sure their back is straight, and they sink as low as possible, then slowly rise back to standing. Repeat 20 times for three sets. And, if you really want to wear them out before bedtime, turn squats into a squat jump as they rise back up – it’s a killer, so a peaceful night is guaranteed!
Do these exercises together a couple of times a week as a regular routine. Find ways to sn**ch extra workouts as well – squeeze in three-minute bursts of exercise for fun in ad breaks, where you tell each other “drop and give me 20!” (your own PTs on hand, for free). And remember regular playtime can be the best exercise – kick about a football, play tag, and jog along as they ride their bike.

When we change the way we look at things, the things we look at change.” Wayne Dyer
While many of us are in a cycle of anxiety and fear, please remember that we can shift this to thoughts of gratitude. We can switch our thoughts from the fear of the unknown to what we can do and break this cycle of panic or stress . HOW?
• Close your eyes and take a deep breath.
• Breathe in deeply, allowing your belly to expand with air.
• Pause. Then exhale with force through the mouth.
• Open your eyes, do you notice any differences, they might be subtle.
Just like that, you are one step closer to inner peace. It’s hard to remember to breathe during stressful times, even though this is one of the most important things you can do for yourself to help cope.
This action allows us to drop into our parasympathetic nervous system. This is how we create peace of mind and flood our body with chemicals that boost our immune system and heal us.

Most of the time, when children act out by kicking and screaming expletives, it is because they do not understand what they are going through, and cannot find a better way to release their feelings.

10/11/2019

Modern Mystery School South Africa is doing a charity drive for those in need. We are collecting items to fill shoe boxes which we will gift to homes who care for children and the aged. We are looking for the following items for the shoe boxes:

· Non-perishable food items (cans of food, flour, mielie meal, oil, rice, tea, etc)

· Toiletries (soap, toothpaste, toilet paper, toothbrushes, sanitary pads, etc)

· Clothing (new and used)

· Stationary (pencils, pens, rulers, exam pads, crayons, etc)

· Toys (new and used)

· Shoe boxes or small to medium cardboard boxes

We will be delivering the shoe boxes to the homes before Christmas and would love for you to join us in spreading some festive cheer. Please drop off items on or before 11 December at The Modern Mystery School South Africa: 130 Boeing Rd E, Bedfordview. Alternatively, collection can be arranged.
