I’m so proud of these potters! 🌼

We’re on week 3 of our Beginners Pottery Course, which means we learnt how to Rams Head wedge our clay, slab roll by hand and machine, and how to create a template for a vase or a pot plant 🌿

Once our templates were cut out, we played around with impression, using a variety of items to create those impressions.

Once satisfied, we slipped and scored our bases and walls to stick together, making one complete piece, as seen in the pics above.

Next week we’ll play around with more decorating techniques, and refining our existing pieces to prepare them for their first firing, the bisque.

Stay tuned for the next few weeks to come ❤️

Our beginners course has felt like a dream so far ❤️

There’s nothing quite like coming together and keeping your hands busy as you create beautiful vessels!

We started off with pinch pots in order to get a ‘feel’ for the clay and how it works in the hands, working with 2 different clay bodies and discerning what their differences are.

In this second week we focused on Coils! Coiling is a valuable method used to add onto existing pieces, such as the pinch pots which can grow your vessel into a larger shape. It can also be used to reinforce joins, ensuring less cracks occur.

In addition to learning the coiling method, we also introduced how to ‘slip and score’, a method used to stick joins together.

These two methods will be necessary for next week’s class, slab building 😍 Where we’ll be working on building a pot plant!

Stay tuned, there are lots of exciting times ahead.

Tapas challenges us to practice greater self-restraint. Tap means heat and through the practice of āsana yoga, heat is generated to burn away the impurities of the body and the mind, as well as the karmic imprints from our consciousness (samsara).
_
Through these methods, one disciplines the body, mind and consciousness to be able to function as fully as possible. To put tapas into action is first of all to show up for your practices consistently.

The Isht Sodhana Mantra is a perfect mantra for the Earth energy as it connects the Earth and the vastness of the ether and projects it from the heart. It is done with visualization, and it makes you present, calls on your highest spirit, keeps you humble and effective on your new ventures, and attracts opportunities for prosperity.

Santosa is a state of deep, sustained contentment, accompanied by an acceptance of what is regardless of ones particular outcome.
_
This comes when one can truly direct the mind onwards and towards the higher self. Santosa is present when one can experience mistakes, disappointment or despair, and find fulfillment in the continual learning process.
_
This practice could not be more apt for the present time we’re in. Acceptance is key. Acceptance will get you through 💚
