๐๏ธโจ August is Eye Exam Month โจ๐๏ธ
Regular eye exams are important for maintaining good vision and detecting early signs of eye disease.
But did you know?
Sometimes eye symptoms can indicate a neurological condition rather than just an eye problem.
๐ Your ophthalmologist or optometrist may refer you to a neurosurgeon if they detect signs such as:
โ
Persistent double vision
โ
Sudden loss of vision in one or both eyes
โ
Drooping eyelids or abnormal eye movements
โ
Optic nerve compression seen on imaging
โ
Vision changes linked to brain or spinal tumours, aneurysms, or increased intracranial pressure
๐จโโ๏ธ A neurosurgeon works closely with ophthalmologists and neurologists to determine if the cause is related to the brain, spine, or nervous system, and to guide treatment when surgery is required.
๐ซ Donโt skip your annual eye exam โ it could protect more than just your sight!
