Let’s start 2023 with an introduction of who I am and what my studio and practice stands for.
My name is Shirley Boerssen. I am the founder of CoreConnect Health and Fitness boutique studio where I practice as an Exercise Therapist, specializing in women’s health.
I am a women’s health enthusiast, with a passion to normalize the conversation around pelvic floor dysfunction and health by educating women and men by offering small workshops, talks and events around this topic. I am also the exclusive representative of Hypopressives South Africa.
After completing my Honors Degree in Psychology and a Personal Training education I have qualified in various methodologies like the Hypopressives Therapy system, Pilates, massage therapy, nutritional therapy, fascia in movement, trauma informed yoga and many more. My approach to movement and rehabilitation is within a holistic and therapeutic setting and I approach pelvic-floor and core function from a movement and therapeutic exercise perspective.
After personally dealing with core-pelvic floor dysfunction due to pregnancy, I understand the difficulties, physically and emotionally, in retraining the core to become functional. I am passionate about educating and motivating men and women on core-pelvic floor health and wellness. I love creating platforms to open conversations around the taboo topic related to pelvic floor health and I believe in training men and women safely and smartly after surgery, injury or a break from exercise by implementing Hypopressives as a therapeutic starting point on their journey back to movement and fitness. After the initial rehabilitative phase of Hypopressives I assist clients to build on their strength and together we tailor a program to include various exercise modalities within the client’s regular exercise and movement program. I find satisfaction in helping clients find their fitness fit to become stronger and more energised in their journey back to movement.
As I am entering the peri-menopausal phase and journey of life I am discovering and experiencing the impact of hormonal changes on the body in general but also on one’s energy and fitness or movement level. The impact of this phase have once again changed and shaped my approach and line of work from a personal experience, but also to hold and support my client within this stage. I am excited for what this stage in life has to offer me, as well as the applications and therapies I can offer my menopausal clients on their journeys.
I am excited for 2023 as we all enter life post-Covid. I can see that clients are wanting to lead healthier and fulfilling lives and I am here to support my tribe and community in our practice. So 2023, bring it on: let’s stand tall, breathe full and move well.
