Nurturing the Future: The Power of the First 1000 days
Isiqalo; a single word, so small and simple, and yet so powerful.
In English, it means “New Beginnings.” But to us, it is so much more — it is the spark of hope, the courage to face challenges, and the sacred promise of change.
Every quarter, for eight precious weeks, we have the honor of walking alongside 25 brave young women. Twenty-five stories. Twenty-five journeys. Each one filled with its own struggles, questions, and quiet dreams. And within those weeks, lives are stirred, hearts are softened, and destinies are touched in ways that words often fail to capture.
The Isiqalo program is more than a curriculum — it is a safe embrace. A space where love meets education, where support becomes strength, and where motherhood is seen not as an ending, but as a beginning. It offers an alternative to adoption, not by diminishing choice, but by opening new possibilities: the gift of positive parenting, the fight against gender-based violence, and the vital nurturing of a child’s first 1,000 days.
Here, young women are not only taught — they are empowered. They leave not with perfection, but with courage. Not with every answer, but with the unshakable belief that they are “good enough” mothers, worthy of love, capable of raising children in strength and dignity.
As facilitators, we carry a promise rooted in 1 Corinthians 3:6: “I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow.” Every seed planted in these eight weeks is sacred. Some sprout before our eyes. Others lie hidden, waiting for their season. But all are entrusted to God, who tends and nurtures them in His perfect time.
The Isiqalo program is not only about motherhood. It is about womanhood. It is about discovering worth, reclaiming purpose, and standing tall in the truth that when a woman knows her value, she raises her child not out of fear, but out of love and strength.
Isiqalo is new beginnings — not just for a child, but for every woman who dares to believe that her story can be rewritten.
