We are deeply concerned by the allegations raised in this article about conditions at Weskoppies Psychiatric Hospital, including reports of neglect, poor patient care, and repeated power outages.

Mental Health facilities must be places of safety, dignity, and care. When systems fail, it is patients who are impacted. We’re sharing this in the public interest to ensure these concerns are seen, discussed, and not forgotten. Accountability and patient Wellbeing must remain central to Mental Health care.

If this affects you or raises concerns, support is available via SADAG on 0800 567 567 or office@anxiety.org.za

This month is a gentle reminder to turn inward. Heal so you don’t beg the world for love. When you love yourself fully, you show up whole and love becomes something you share, not something you chase. ❤️

When I was a teenager, I loved magazines so much. When I couldn’t afford one, I would read them in stores (even though it wasn’t allowed 😅). I entered competitions, walked to the post office to send my entries, and never won 🥹

Recently, I picked one up again and realised that this love never really left me. It was still there, waiting. So now, I buy one every month 🥰

Looking back, those magazines did more than entertain me. They helped me cope, kept me hopeful, and allowed me to imagine a life bigger than my circumstances at the time.

One of the ways we take care of ourselves is by returning to the things that once made us feel alive, safe, and inspired. Self-care doesn’t always mean adding something new, sometimes it means reconnecting with what we’ve always loved.

Find what you love, and allow yourself to do it often 🤍✨

This is a devastating loss. I find myself randomly singing and dancing to “Haibo Ta Bravo, haibo ishuuuu”. Sending strength, love, and healing to his loved ones 🕊️

Justice Desk Africa extends its deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of Bravo Le Roux. We mourn alongside you during this painful time and hold you in our thoughts as you navigate the immense loss of someone who meant so much to so many. Words will never be enough to ease the weight of this grief, but we hope you find comfort in knowing that his life made a profound and lasting impact.

Bravo Le Roux was more than a public figure; he was a beacon of hope for township youth, particularly here on the Cape Flats. Through his voice, presence, and lived experience, he represented resilience, creativity, and the possibility of rising beyond circumstance. In communities often overshadowed by hardship, he stood as living proof that talent, purpose, and determination can shine through even the toughest environments.
