As we close off C-Section Awareness Month, I would like this is to be a big shoutout to all the C-section Mamas.

Being a C-section mom myself, I know that it's never an easy decision, but seeing the healthy little person on the other side of that cloth draping in theatre, it's so worth it!

🥂 So to us, with babies that don't have birthdays because they were sort of "evacuated" 😜😄, you are amazing! 🥂

Keeping this in line with the C-Section Awareness Month Theme, here are some tips for recovery in the first 6 weeks after your C-section:

Tip 1: Take walks - Do this according to your comfort level, whether it's 2mins or 5 mins, just try do it as soon as Day1 after your procedure. Do it in short sessions throughout the day.
Take it easy - Make sure your are as comfortable and as pain-free as possible. Keep warm, take your prescribed meds (even when you don't feel the pain, take them at the prescribed time, especially for the first 2 weeks). Limit the amount of strenous tasks, rather take care of baby and you.

Tip 2: Do some belly-breathing exercises and pelvic tilts (10 of each before or after you take your walk), this will help with the trapped air in your belly and relax your pelvic floor muscles, allowing easy peeing, popping and passing of gas.

Tip 3: Keep that poo soft. This is too avoid straining on the toilet, disrupting the healing process. This means upping your water and fibre intake, or taking stool softners. The softer the poo, the better.

April is C-section Awareness Month.

Here are some common facts about the C-section procedure:
- The cesarean section is one of the many amazing ways of childbearing
- This can be elective/planned or done as a emergency procedure
- It is a major surgery that involves incision and suturing back of multiple layers (about 7), therefore extra caution must be taken to aid healing.

Happy Physiotherapy Week ✨

This year, the focus is on the mental health impact of Covid – and how we, as physiotherapists, can help.

“Physiotherapists have a range of techniques to boost mental health, which include breathing exercises, relaxation techniques, body and movement awareness, and movement or physical activity carefully tailored to the individual. Stress, anxiety and depression can also result in physical pain, which physiotherapists are well equipped to deal with. It is our job to help patients reach optimum health, wellbeing and function including boosting mental health.”

Here are some breathing exercises to try out.

National Burn Awareness Week

What is a burn contracture?
This is the tightening of burn scar tissue after a second or third degree burn. When the burn scar matures it thickens and tightens, and this can prevent or restrict movement.
A contracture is preventable through early rehabilitation.
