Feeling Overlooked? Remember David... 👑
Have you ever felt overlooked? Forgotten when everyone else was busy living their lives, having fun, while you were sitting on the side, unseen. Never given a chance to show people what is truly inside of you… But thinking they are most probably not even interested.
When we look at the story of David, it's clear he must also have felt this way when Samuel came to anoint the next king of Israel, even though he wasn't invited. His father, Jesse, proudly paraded his seven sons before Samuel - tall, strong, impressive men who looked like what people imagined a king should be.
Surely one of them must be God’s chosen one.
But one by one, God rejected them all in 1 Samuel 16:7: “The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
When Samuel asked Jesse if that was all his sons, almost as an afterthought, he mentioned David, the youngest, tending the sheep. But God spoke the moment David arrived: “Rise and anoint him; this is the one.” (1 Samuel 16:12)
His family saw him as the shepherd boy; God saw a heart after His own heart. The youngest, smallest, overlooked by his own family, was the chosen one by God Himself to lead a nation. The oil was poured over David's head, and the Holy Spirit was upon him all the days of his life.
You might feel like David - that all the years of “tending sheep” are wasted time. No good for anything. Not needed by anyone.
But as with David, whatever job or situation you are in, or have been in for years, is not wasted time at all - it is all preparation. Trusting God in the small, insignificant things prepares you for leading armies. God develops leaders in hidden places before placing them on public platforms.
God is looking at hearts, not appearances, not statuses, not positions, or fame. What seems like insignificant preparation in your life is exactly what God is using to ready you for His purpose.
The potential God saw in an overlooked shepherd boy, He sees in you, too.
God's Kingdom often begins in the most unlikely places, with the most unlikely people...
What is He calling you to today? Take that leap of faith 👑🙏🏼
