AVOID a VIOLENT ATTACK

Pepper spray is an excellent and effective survival tool. It is both non-lethal, helps to create distance between you and your attacker, and is easily carried with you wherever you go.

And remember - any weapon that you cannot access – cannot be used in an emergency. So instead of leaving your Pepper Spray in your car / your home / in the bottom of your Handbag – take out - take it with you.

They came out of nowhere? No! You weren't paying attention. Do you remember the first time someone cut in front of you on the highway? He came out of nowhere! Well, that how it seemed at the time. Actually, he was there all the time, you just didn't notice him. Over the years I have honed my recognition skills and just like most of you, when I am on the highway and the person in the next car glances in their rear-view mirror, I have a pretty good idea that they are about to change lanes. These recognition skills have saved me on numerous occasions and I am sure you have experienced the same thing.

People who have been in violent confrontations often say exactly the same thing, "They came out of nowhere." Well, the fact is that "they" are not fairy godmothers and can't just appear out of nowhere - they are there, watching you and by the time you see "them", they know you and have chosen you to be their next volunteer.

Recognition skills are not just reserved for driving. Recognition skills and awareness are actually the best forms of self-defence. Just by making them a habit, you can take away the bad guy's biggest ally - the element of surprise.

But where to start?
1. Get off your cell phone! Put your cell phone in your pocket and look around at how many people have no clue what is going on around them. They are constantly distracted by their phones and that’s exactly what the bad guys love to see.
2. A good way to build up those skills are to regularly give yourself little tests to see how observant you are. Glance in your rear-view mirror and see if you can at least remember some of the numbers form the number-plate on the car behind you. Next time you are in a restaurant, look behind you for a second and then see if you can describe the people sitting behind you: How many? what are they wearing? What are they doing? Walk into a room full of people and quickly count how many of them are wearing a blue item of clothing. Then take another look and count how many of them are on their cell phones, either talking or messaging. Think about how easy it would be to walk right up to them and take them by complete surprise.

Monday March 30, 2020 - Government rolls out massive COVID-19 testing drive

The move to deploy medical teams to conduct home screening and testing is a proactive step. However, we must emphasise that this opens the door for CRIMINALS to EXPLOIT.

It is anticipated that TEAMS will move into an area and move from street to street, so everyone will know that they are there. They should be clearly identifiable and accompanied by SAPS or SANDF or both.

In the event that you are visited by a team wanting to conduct COVID-19 tests in your home, PLEASE BE CAREFUL before allowing anyone access.

May I suggest that . . . . WITHOUT LEAVING THE SAFETY of your home -
* See if there are official vehicles in the street (i.e. Dept.of Health, SAPS or military vehicles)
* The likelihood of there being only 1 or 2 people at you property is slim - so be cautious and check for teams in the area.
* Ask and answer questions from a distance and in a safe place such as behind a locked door or security gate.
NB - keep distance (+/- 2m) between you and the security structure so nobody can reach through and harm you.
* If you have a Personal Safety tool such as Pepper Spray or a panic button - have it IN YOUR HAND at all times while in conversation with the person/people.
* If you have ANY concern about the validity of their request to enter your home - politely ask them to step back away from your property while you verify their identity, and contact the police or your security company.

BE AWARE - The latest gadget used to jump walls and palisade fences.

A security perimeter (fence or wall) is a good start to taking control of your Personal Safety. But the baddies have ways of getting over them.
This is only ONE example of the methods they use to "jump boundaries" - to either gain access to your property or fleeing from SAPS / Security personal.

So you need "layers" of security to help keep you and those you love safe.

If you would like to discuss the ACT Personal Safety "layers" approach to Personal Safety - please feel to contact me via FB or WhatsApp on 0678304350

How essential is a flashlight for your Personal Safety?

We live in a time of black outs. It amazing how dark and frightening the shopping mall becomes when the lights go out. Why not have a flashlight near at hand? Use it to look into those scary dark corners . Your ability to see the bad guy early will take away his advantage of surprise. If he tries to grab you, flash him in his eyes, it gives you more time to get away. Don't forget turn your flashlight into a good striking tool if you need to.

Things to look for in a good flashlight; it should be easy to use & rugged. Make sure it‘s small enough to carry comfortably and a pocket clip will be useful too. A strong bezel (front end ) is good if you decide to strike with your flash light. Look for something with anywhere between 600 and 1000 lumens, this is powerful enough to mess with a bad guys vision .

Remember; you can turn a good tool into and excellent tool when you back it up with the right training

Some information about us.

If you found yourself in a life-threatening situation, do you know how you would react?

Those who have found themselves the victim of an attack will tell you: “I panicked.” “I froze.” “I didn’t know what to do.” This is because taking immediate and corrective action is next to impossible when you are suddenly thrust into a life-threatening situation. That is, unless you have a plan and can draw on the relevant resources required to counter the attack. This is what we do. We teach you how to read a hostile situation and apply your personal, pre-determined strategy to firstly reduce your risk of attack and ultimately, how to survive one should it happen to you.

We will take you step-by-step through the process of making critical decisions before facing potential conflict situations. We provide the knowledge and tools allowing you to act in the safest possible way. In our workshops, you will learn the importance of accountability and the understanding of criminal mind set and behaviour. You will be advised about key aspects of personal awareness, decision making, having a plan in place as well as possible weapon selections for self-defence. We include demonstrations of conflict situations and effective ways of dealing with them.
