Humble Soulful Sister
I’m a Doctor in Phytotherapy (Herbal Medicine) as I done a Bachelors in Science (BSc) then did a Bachelors in Complementary medicine (BCM) in the School of Natural Medicine (SONM) at The University of the Western Cape (UWC). I developed a huge love for academics when I taught part time at a private co-ed islamic high school teaching natural science and other subjects. This love grew and then further encouraged me to continue studying. Now I am currently finishing off my third degree which is a Masters in Science (MSc) in Medical Bioscience (MBS). My research topic is focused on the effects of herbal medicine on male infertility using an indigenous herb in an in-vitro model.
Currently I am lecturing full time in the SONM at UWC in both the BSc and BCM programs. The subjects that I focus on ranges from the basic introduction to herbal medicine to the integrative understanding of herbal medicine treatment in a clinical setting. Along-side studying and working full time I am involved in Community and Health Science (CHS) faculty research projects and on different committees within the faculty. This all aids to my academic profile and allows me the space to constantly be engaging in acquiring new knowledge about herbal medicine. With regards to aiding the growth and development of the profession I serve on the executive committee of South African Association of Herbal Practitioners (SAAHP) that supports all Phytotherapist in South Africa as the secretary. I actively write blogs and engage on social media with informative health related topics to spread awareness. From a family background I am very community oriented and get involved in community projects as well as do public talks on radio and other platforms to raise awareness about health and wellness.
I firmly believe that one should be the change you want to see in the world so I also actively serve on a NPO called Deen Companions (DC) that socially support revert muslims that embraced islam as the head of the female mentorship portfolio. DC is a social support organization that actively embarks on integrating reverts into the muslim community with a series of events and support structures put in place tailor made to suit a reverts social needs within a South African context. My focus in life is to uplift and improve the broader community from a health and wellness & social perspective. Every day, I strive to both educate and heal my patients thus empowering them to live holistically healthier lives.
