🧬 Medical Mondays: Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease & Hearing Loss 👂

Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) is a hereditary nerve disorder that primarily affects the limbs but can also involve hearing loss.
In some cases, CMT damages the auditory nerves, leading to sensorineural or auditory neuropathy hearing loss. This can cause difficulty understanding speech, especially in noisy environments.

Alström Syndrome is a rare genetic disorder that can affect multiple organs—including the ears. One of the early signs is progressive hearing loss, often beginning in childhood.

👂 How it affects hearing:
Alström Syndrome damages the inner ear’s sensory cells, leading to sensorineural hearing loss, which usually gets worse over time.
