Great Gatsby Event – What A Night

Saturday 8th March saw The Marabi Club in Johannesburg go back to the 1920 era to raise funds for The Boikanyo Foundation and what a night it was!

The Story of Baby Amanda.

Baby Amanda, only 10 months old was one of the first children The Boikanyo Foundation donated to in partnership with Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital in 2019

Baby Amanda was hospitalised for a month at Sebokeng Hospital where doctors discovered she had a hole in the heart and was diagnosed with a ventricular septal defect (VSD). The little girl spent three weeks at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital before being transferred to Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital (NMCH) for cardiac surgery. The operation was successful. Amanda has now been able to grow into beautiful little girl full of life and happy.

YOU can make the difference in the next little Amanda and let another little girl grow up happy and healthy.

Join us for a fun filled night at our amazing event.

Khomotso age 6

Operation: Closure of Atrial Septal Defect.
Khomotso was referred to NMCH after many years of life limiting a Congenital Heart Defect.

She stayed in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for three weeks after her much needed operation but has made a full recovery and can now look forward to a happy life.

Khomotso’s operation was a success. Her mother doesn’t believe that she will be back at the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital and that now she can run, play and be a normal child for the first time in many years.

The Boikanyo Foundation dreams of making a difference in the lives of under privilege South African Children, who are in desperate need of life changing operations. WE RELY ON YOU to help save the hearts of these beautiful children and allowing them to go on and live full and amazing lives.

The Child below desperately needed help, and we partnered with The Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital to pay for the consumables needed to allow these children to come off the waiting list and have the surgeries they had been waiting for, for so long.

CAN YOU HELP THE NEXT CHILD ON THE WAITING LIST GO ON TO HAVE A HAPPY NORMAL LIFE AND A BRIGHT FUTURE FREE FROM PAIN.

Operation: Valve Repair
Gift underwent a successful operation.

He also spent time in the intensive care unit, followed by cardiac ward and ultimately got discharged.

While Gift was undergoing an open-heart surgery, his mother was provided with accommodation at the Ronald McDonald house which accommodates many families of critically ill children travelling from afar receiving medical care at NMCH.

Gift’s Mommy, ultimate wish was seeing her son being healthy and able to attend school like other children.

“I would like to thank the doctors and nurses; they did a great job because without their help I do not think I would still have my baby now.”

PLEASE MAKE THE DIFFERENCE IN THE LIVES OF THE NEXT CHILD.

The Boikanyo Foundation has formed a vital and unique partnership with the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital to increase the number of children receiving life-saving heart surgery through the hospital’s paediatric cardiothoracic surgery department.

The foundation provides funds to cover financial shortfalls for consumables in cases where other available public funding is insufficient.

Our aim is to help save at least 24 young people every year through these surgeries. But we can only do this with help from people like you. At only R50 000.00 per surgery, any and all donations to our foundation helps contribute to another life changed and another life saved.

Dress up, let your hair down and come help save a life while enjoying an evening of cocktails, dinner, entertainment and much more.

• On arrival our valet service will securely park your car while you are ushered to cocktails on the rooftop with a one of a kind 360-degree view of Johannesburg city as the sun sets, and the inner city lights up below you.

• Then join us for an unforgettable dinner and immerse yourself in entertainment in true ‘Marabi’ style, to forget the hardships of another working week.

• In the Marabi Jazz Club, one of Jozi’s hottest and most authentic music and dining experiences, dance the night away while enjoying our open bar and amazing dinner.

No need to buy a full table, we’ll arrange your table according to the number of guests you bring along.

Please RSVP to Nicola at nicola@boikanyo.org by no later than 26 January 2025, and she will respond with more details.

We've been partnering with The Boikanyo Foundation at the last 2 Benoni Beer & Gin Fest's, raising awareness and funds for paediatric heart surgeries.

This year, we decided the best way to do this is to knuckle down and create the Boikanyo Brew, a delicious malty red ale.

Support us and let's raise one on 1 June. You can also donate and support here:

THE BOIKANYO FOUNDATION

The Boikanyo Foundation (PBO 930028097) was established to increase access to surgical treatment for children born with congenital heart defects. The foundation provides funding to underprivileged children on treatment waiting lists, who are referred to one of the facilities in partnership with the foundation.

The Boikanyo Foundation has formed a vital and unique partnership with the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital to increase the number of children receiving life-saving open-heart surgery through the hospital’s pediatric cardiothoracic surgery department. The foundation provides funds to cover financial shortfalls for consumables in cases where other available public funding is insufficient.

The Boikanyo Foundation is a non-racial, non-political organization for the benefit of all underprivileged children requiring surgical treatment of congenital heart disease. Since the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital is a referral facility that accepts children from across Africa, the Boikanyo Foundation, therefore, aligns its funding allocation based on the same principle.

To date, the Boikanyo Foundation has sponsored more than 100 surgeries.
