Painful and Liberating

The power of WE

20/01/2026

STEP 1. The most radical admission you will ever make.

Step 1 is not about weakness.
It is about truth.

We admitted we were powerless over our addiction and that our lives had become unmanageable.

Powerless does not mean hopeless.
It means I finally stopped lying to myself.

I stopped pretending I was in control while everything around me was quietly or loudly falling apart. I stopped spiritual bypassing. I stopped intellectualising my way out of pain. I stopped blaming the world, my past, my partner, my parents, the system.

Step 1 is the moment the ego taps out.

It is the sacred pause where you say this is not working anymore.

Not in shame.
In honesty.

Unmanageability is not only chaos. It is the constant inner war. The exhausting attempt to control feelings, people, outcomes, substances, behaviours and life itself.

Here is the paradox.
The moment you admit powerlessness, real power shows up.

Because surrender is not collapse.
It is alignment with reality.

Step 1 does not ask you to have faith.
It asks you to have eyes.

To look at your life as it is, not as you explain it, justify it or defend it.

Recovery does not start with fixing yourself.
It starts with telling the truth.

And truth is the first spiritual act.

Not where we "should" be? Not where we wish we were. But where we are right now.

At Healing Light, we meet people in the middle of their reality, emotional pain, confusion, relapse, or quiet exhaustion
No judgement. No shortcuts. Just honest, supported change.

I am not sure about you, but this is the year to take the leap. How many times are we still going to pretend that we know or think our best solutions will solve things. Has it ever?

Today I shared on how the programme works and what recovery truly looks like beyond just stopping a substance.

Recovery is structured, intentional, and deeply personal.
It’s about accountability, self-awareness, healing old wounds, and learning new ways to live, cope, and connect.

Real recovery is not perfection.
It’s progress, honesty, and showing up even when it’s uncomfortable.

Thank you to the SCRC team and everyone who leaned in, asked questions, and committed to their journey.
One day at a time. đź’™

I’ve been thinking about this lately; love starts where judgment ends.

It’s amazing how often we shut love out without even realizing it. Every time we judge someone (or ourselves), we create distance. But when we pause and choose understanding instead, something changes.

The walls come down. Compassion steps in.
And suddenly, there’s space for healing, connection, and peace.

We don’t have to agree with everything or everyone, but we can choose to love without judgment. That’s where real growth begins.

The Mind-Body Connection in Recovery

Addiction doesn’t start with the substance. As Dr. Gabor Maté often points out, it begins with pain. The body carries stress, trauma, and unresolved emotions—and when those aren’t faced, they will find an outlet. Substances become a way of medicating the body’s cry for relief.

But here’s the hard truth: you cannot separate your mind from your body. You think you can neglect sleep, eat poorly, ignore exercise, and somehow “work on your recovery” through willpower alone. That is wishful thinking.

The body is not a machine you can abuse without consequence—it is the very ground on which your recovery stands. If your body is weak, inflamed, and exhausted, your mind will not have the strength to confront cravings, repair relationships, or endure discomfort.

So ask yourself: What small, disciplined action can you take today that strengthens your body and, in turn, your mind? A walk. A meal that nourishes instead of depletes. A moment of deep breathing instead of endless scrolling.

Recovery is not just about quitting substances—it is about rebuilding your whole self, starting with the body that carries you through this life.

📌 Your body is not your enemy. It is your ally in recovery. Treat it accordingly.

Addiction is misunderstood - often anyways .

addiction, defined by Dr Gabor Mate , I think is the best .
engagement in a behaviour that knowingly causes negative impact or consequences in the long run, but they choose to engage anyways . No mention of drugs - it’s any proclivity - respectfully .

if one of the basic human needs is to he loved and accepted , then reflect on the next question . What did the addiction do for me, what purpose or role did the relative behavioural disposition serve ?
Some say peace, numb , present moments , acceptance, the edge off - respectfully . Who doesn’t want to feel acceptance or present or no anxiety ?

Isnt it safe to say that addiction is a human response to abnormal circumstances ? Why can’t the individual feel these moments in life ?

What is the pain about ?

Once a person senses compassion , they will allow themselves to see the truth . Note, it is not from controlling another , it is from the self allowing the self to understand what the pain is all about .
