Why do doctors recommend Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) for compromised grafts and flaps? 🩹💨
When newly transplanted tissue doesn’t receive enough oxygenated blood, it becomes vulnerable to swelling, infection and tissue failure. Poor circulation, vascular compromise, or pressure on small blood vessels can all limit oxygen delivery and without early support, the tissue may not survive.
HBOT delivers 100% oxygen at high pressure, allowing oxygen to dissolve directly into the plasma and reach compromised tissue even when blood flow is reduced. This helps decrease swelling, enhance infection control and support tissue repair, especially when used early alongside surgical and medical management.
It’s not a replacement for surgery, but it’s a powerful supportive therapy that can help protect healing tissue when timing and oxygen truly matter. 💙
