All the power is in your mind

7 DAYS OF CLEANSING: Day 5 - Clean up the way you eat.

Clean up your eating habits with three simple words:
1) NO
2) THANK
3) YOU

💪 There is so much power in taking control over your eating habits and food choices.

💪 If you approach it with a restricting mentality, you activate the victim mindset which will sound like this: I can’t have a treat because I need to lose weight and now I feel sorry for myself.”

💪 If you approach it with a powerful mindset you activate the self love mentality which will sound like this: I don’t want to have an unhealthy treat today because I love my body and I want to look after it as well as I can. But if I still crave the unhealthy treat tomorrow I will share the treat with my friend while we catch up.”

Nutrition week and we are talking about the importance of breakfast

What does a healthy breakfast consist of? Think brown bread with peanut butter and sliced banana / last night's leftover mielie meal with milk and a piece of fruit / oats, yoghurt and fruit blended into a smoothie / nut trail mix with yoghurt on the go www.nutritionweek.co.za

Are gluten-free products a healthier option? Not necessarily! Gluten-free products can often be higher in fat, saturated fat, sodium, sugar and lower in B-vitamins and fibre than their glutinous counterparts.
*
If you are gluten intolerant, remember to still read your labels and look for gluten-free products that are high in fibre and low in fat.
*
If you are not gluten intolerant, the whole-wheat or whole-grain option is often the healthier option.
*
Always check fibre content and try choose high fibre products (3-4g fibre per 15g of carbs is a good ratio). Products with a bit more protein are an added bonus as they will aid in satiety and help you to feel fuller for longer.

As always, beware of health claims. Just because a product claims to be "gluten-free/ vegan/ raw/" etc. this doesn't always mean it is the best option for your body or health goals. Check ingredients and check labels for sugar, sodium, fat and fibre content.

A grain is considered to be a whole grain as long as all three original parts -- the bran, germ, and endosperm -- are still present in the same proportions as when the grain was growing in the fields.
