Feeling low this winter? It might be more than just the weather.
Many people experience a noticeable drop in mood, energy, and motivation during the colder months. While it's common to feel a little “flat” in winter, some individuals develop a more serious condition known as Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)—a form of depression linked to seasonal changes.

Key symptoms may include:

Wanneer is dit veilig om nĂĄ griep weer te begin oefen?
Die huidige Influenza A-virus hou mense langer siek as gewoonlik—met hoë koors, uitputting en ’n moeilike hersteltyd. Om jou oefenroetine te vinnig te hervat, kan jou herstel vertraag of selfs jou hart beskadig.

Volg hierdie riglyne as jy onlangs griep gehad het:
>>Moenie oefen as jy nog koors het nie. Wag minstens 24 tot 48 uur nadat die koors heeltemal gesak het.
>>Luister na jou liggaam. As jy steeds kortasem is, moeg voel of swak slaap, stel oefening uit tot jy beter herstel het.
>>Begin stadig. Begin met ligte aktiwiteit soos stap vir 10–15 minute en bou geleidelik op.
>>Wees waaksaam vir simptome soos borspyn, hartkloppings of kortasem. Dit kan dui op ontsteking van die hartspier ná griep. Sien ’n dokter voordat jy weer ernstig oefen.

Onthou:
Fisieke aktiwiteit is belangrik vir jou gesondheid—maar ná griep is dit belangriker om jou liggaam tyd te gee om volledig te herstel.

Wat jy moet weet oor brandwonde – veral in die wintermaande
Brandwonde kom meer dikwels voor in koue maande—van verhittingsongelukke tot warm water of oop vlamme. Om te weet wat om te doen wanneer iemand brand, kan komplikasies voorkom en lewens red.

Hoe bepaal jy die erns van ’n brandwond?
Brandwonde word volgens graad geklassifiseer:
👉Eerstegraad: Rooi, pynlike vel sonder blase (soos sonbrand).
👉Tweedegraad: Rooi, pynlike vel met blase.
👉Derdegraad: Die vel lyk wit, waserig, of swart verkleur en verkool. Dit kan dik, leeragtig of droog wees. Omdat die senuwee-eindpunte beskadig is, voel die persoon soms geen pyn op die brandplek self nie—al is die skade ernstig.

Moets:
>>Koel die brandwond af met louwarm lopende water vir 10–20 minute.
>>Verwyder los kledingstukke en juweliersware naby die wond.
>>Bedek die wond met ’n skoon, droë, nie-kleefverband.
>>Kry mediese hulp vir enige brandwond wat groot is, op die gesig, gewrigte of hande is, of wat tweedegraad en erger is.

Moenies:
>>Moenie ys gebruik nie—dit kan verdere skade veroorsaak.
>>Moenie botter, tandepasta of huismiddels aansmeer nie.
>>Moenie blase stukkend druk nie.
>>Moenie kinders se brandwonde onderskat nie—hul vel is dunner en meer kwesbaar.

Onthou:
Brandwonde is vatbaar vir infeksie en kan tot ernstige komplikasies lei. Vinnige, korrekte eerstehulp maak die verskil.

Everything You Need to Know About Fevers
A fever isn’t an illness—it’s a symptom. It’s your body’s natural way of fighting infection.

👉What counts as a fever?
Normal body temperature is around 36.5–37.5°C.
A temperature of 38°C or higher is considered a fever.

👉What causes it?
Fevers are usually caused by infections—viral or bacterial. But inflammation, heat exhaustion, or even medication reactions can also be triggers.

👉When is a fever helpful?
Fever helps your immune system respond more effectively by slowing the growth of viruses and bacteria.

👉When should you worry?
Infants under 3 months with a fever
A fever over 40°C
Lasting more than 3 days
Accompanied by confusion, severe headache, stiff neck, difficulty breathing, rash, or persistent vomiting

👉What can you do?
Keep hydrated
Rest
Use paracetamol or ibuprofen if uncomfortable
Avoid over-bundling

👉Don’t panic—monitor.
A mild to moderate fever can be managed at home. But if you're unsure or symptoms escalate, speak to your healthcare provider.

Tipiese kenmerke van ‘n gevaarlike borskaspyn:
👉 Pyn wat erger word met oefening of inspanning bv. trappe klim
👉 Drukkende pyn wat versprei na arm of kakebeen
👉 Kortasem of sweet saam met borskaspyn
👉 Erge en voortdurende sentrale borskaspyn wat vroeg in die oggend begin

Moenie die waarskuwingstekens ingnoreer of wegsteek nie!

Infections could be insidious and does not present with the typical signs like fever on shortness of breath

Symptoms could include:
👉 Tiredness, weakness
👉 Sleeping more
👉 Confusion
👉 Aggression

It is important to observe skin bruises and lesions closely and to have a high index of suspicion for masked infections with altered behaviour
