Eight Petals of Yoga
Patanjali’s eight petals of unity presents us with a proven structure to apply in our lives as a way of discovering the entirety of our beings, both outer and inner. This structure has eight petals which working together form a complete flower (human being):
Yama: ethical practices;
Niyama: individual practices;
Asana: body movement;
Pranayama: breath practice;
Pratyahara: senses practice;
Dharana: concentration practice;
Dhyana: Meditation;
Samadhi: Absorption.

Our basic premise is that we are sensible and practical people dealing with the practical problems of life.
We recognise that the fundamental challenge of life is to find happiness while endeavouring to satisfy our needs and wants.
We accept that we operate, as human beings, through our nature, our “character”.
So, it is our “character” that determines how, where, when and with whom we attempt to satisfy our needs and wants.
It would be useful, we are sure, to understand as clearly as possible; who is this “character”; and what are these needs and wants.
Seeking this understanding, we ascribe to the following: discovering anything in life is a journey – in this case, a journey of personal discovery.
For any journey to be successful one needs at least to know: where are you starting from, where are you going to and what is the means of travel.
If we accept the above, and we want to be successful in our journey, following an organised and proven structure would be very useful; for many this is Patanjalis Eight Petals of Yoga.

This is not about Hugh, he just happens to be the initiator and facilitator of this Yoga Centre.
The road leading Hugh to the establishment of the Centre has been long, often rough, with many detours, but in later years clearer and wider.
A large experience base has been established from being raised and schooled in the Zimbabwe bush, building a family from a young age for more than four decades, developing a career, holding senior business positions in Africa, Asia and Europe, participating in social responsibility through charities and educational trusts, and importantly holding true to the rythmn of Vedanta as a devotee.A lifetime experiencing being a human.
Through this long journey, realising that art is about experience, a personal experience, and to experience something you have to walk the road, go on the journey, live it, be it.
So the purpose of the Centre is to go along with people on the journey to experience their humanity - the art of being human.
