Why Do You Get Dizzy During Pregnancy?
Feeling lightheaded or dizzy during pregnancy is common, especially in the first and second trimesters. Here’s why it happens and what you can do about it!
Why Does It Happen?
✅ Hormonal Changes – Pregnancy hormones relax blood vessels, lowering blood pressure.
✅ Increased Blood Demand – Your body is pumping more blood to support your baby, which can lead to temporary dips in circulation.
✅ Low Blood Sugar – Pregnancy can cause fluctuations in blood sugar, leading to dizziness.
✅ Dehydration – Not drinking enough water can make you feel lightheaded.
✅ Lying on Your Back – In later pregnancy, lying flat can compress major blood vessels, reducing blood flow.
How to Manage It
✔️ Get Up Slowly – Avoid standing up too fast from a sitting or lying position.
✔️ Stay Hydrated – Drink plenty of water throughout the day.
✔️ Eat Small, Frequent Meals – This helps keep blood sugar stable.
✔️ Avoid Overheating – Stay in cool environments when possible.
✔️ Lie on Your Side – This improves circulation, especially in the second and third trimesters.
✔️ Wear Loose Clothing – Tight clothes can restrict blood flow.
Most dizziness is normal, but if it’s severe, happens often, or comes with fainting, blurred vision, or shortness of breath, consult your doctor.
Stay safe and take care, moms-to-be! ❤️
