This week, I had the privilege of being part of a team involved in life-changing reconstructive procedures for children during 𝗦𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 at Universitas Academic Hospital in Bloemfontein.

🧡 From cleft lip and palate repairs to facial reconstructions, these procedures give children more than just improved function. They give them a chance to speak clearly, smile proudly, and step into their future with confidence.

One of our patients is a little boy from Welkom who’s been waiting over a year for his cleft lip repair following heart surgery. This week, he finally gets his smile. 💛

We often forget that not all differences are visible. A cleft palate might be hidden, but the effects on speech and self-esteem are lifelong. When we restore something as simple as speech, we change how a child is seen, heard, and included.
