Please sign this petition if you also agree that Autism should be listed under the PMB (prescribed minimum benefits) conditions as specified by medical schemes.

By having Autism listed as such condition, it will provide many children with this diagnosis to attend therapy sessions within the private sector. This will ultimately alleviate the financial burden from the parents to help their children reach their optimal level of functioning and potential.

Autism spectrum disorders (ASD) encompass a range of conditions marked by challenges in social interaction, communication, and behavioral patterns. These may include struggles with transitioning between activities, a tendency to focus intensely on details, and unusual responses to sensations.

The abilities and requirements of individuals with autism are diverse and can change over time. While some can lead independent lives, others face significant disabilities necessitating lifelong care. Autism frequently affects educational and employment opportunities and places considerable demands on families providing support. Societal attitudes and governmental support play crucial roles in shaping the quality of life for those with autism.

Although signs of autism may emerge in early childhood, diagnosis often occurs later in life.
