Keyhole "DLIF" #519 done on Monday, just left hospital. Her previous procedure elsewhere had failed with broken screws as a results. She reports good relief of her back & leg pains. Early days though.

Team Komoti & I had to remove this meningioma as an emergency yesterday. She presented with headaches, epileptic fits & was very drowsy due to the pressure. Glad to report removal was 100% and she is recovering well - awake, no obvious neurological deficit. Will do follow up scan on Monday and try to get her home before Christmas.

Back in Bethlehem for a day or two. We now consult at Hoephoep Guest House, a stone’s throw from Mediclinic. Thank you to Mediclinic & to Next Level Air for the ground & air transport. Strangely, all but one patient had “M” surnames - some Sotho, some Afrikaans, and even Italian.

Did our 400th MI-DLIF operation last week, and 2 more this week. It’s arguably the smallest, least painful, safest, and most efficient way to fix/fuse a very diseased spinal joint permanently. Been at it since 2011.

Dr Anthony Thomas and I had the privilege of doing the 1st couple of "keyhole" spine surgeries in Kimberley and the Northern Cape recently. Most of these were complex trauma cases. Due to the small incisions there was virtually no blood less & little pain, and the patients could be discharged within days, with very satisfactory outcome so far. Thanks to the patients for the trust, and to Lenmed staff & the medical representatives for the after hours travel & support.

Yesterday's 7th “fly in” theater case with Dr Anthony Thomas at the lovely Lenmed Hospital in Kimberley. Thanks for the comraderie Tony & Mony! Thanks to the very supportive theater folks, anaesthetist and management. We did ETV (endoscopic third ventriculostomy) followed by craniotomy & tumour resection. Patient doing fine this morning and provisional results are promising.

just had the privilege of clipping an intracranial aneurysm - she had severe headaches and eye problems for 3 weeks - was at high risk of a disastrous 2nd hemorrhage - trust she'll be on her way home next week this time - God is good
