Personal Touch in Action: Caring for Our Own After the N8 Tragedy
On Saturday, 15 November, tragedy struck on the N8 between Botshabelo and Bloemfontein when a bus and a truck collided in heavy rain. Among the passengers was one of our own — Keitumetsi Tloome, a dedicated team member from Busamed Bram Fischer Private Hospital, who was on her way to work.
In those critical moments, first responders acted swiftly. She was stabilised and transported to Busamed Bram Fischer Private Hospital, where our Emergency Unit team showed what true efficiency and compassion look like. Under the leadership of Dr Khaeane, the surgeon on call, her care was seamless, immediate, and reassuring.
But what truly sets Busamed apart is not only our clinical excellence — it is the humanity behind our care. When Keitumetsi’s phone was lost in the accident, our Surgical Ward team ensured she could continue FaceTiming her daughter and mother throughout her recovery. This simple act of kindness brought her comfort during a frightening and uncertain time.
Today, she is recovering well and remains deeply grateful. She shared that this experience has given her a renewed perspective:
“Busamed doesn’t just care for patients — they care for people, even when those people are part of their own family.”
She is eager to share her full appreciation letter after discharge.
This story is a powerful reminder of why we do what we do. At Busamed, Personal Touch is not just a slogan — it is a promise we live every day.
