Kathleen's Mother and baby clinic

Kathleen's Mother and baby clinic Midwife Deliveries at Birth Centre, Ante-Natal Care, Breastfeeding Support, Post-Natal care. Sr. We believe in less intervention with more positive outcome.

Kathleen is the owner of Sr Kathleen’s Mother and Baby Unit and a Registered Nurse who specialised in midwifery. After many years of delivering babies in the Public as well as Private sector, I realised the need for a dedicated, passionate Midwife in the Ekurhuleni (East Rand) area. Due to the high demand, the practice has grown, and I am now assisted by Sr Juané Schreuder, who is also a Professional Nurse and Midwife, as well as two Birth Assistants and a General Practice Manager. We also provide the services of an on-sight Professional Sonographer and Baby Immunisation. I believe that every mommy-to-be deserves a safe, caring, loving environment with holistic ante natal care through labour and to have a peaceful birth. I ensure the best continuous care during and after labour. We can offer you a safe personalised birth that is still affordable, even if you don’t have medical aid. Clients with medical aid are also welcome as the practice is registered with medical aids.

A new study published recently in the journal Science, which found that reducing sugar in the first 1,000 days (from conception to age 2), can have huge lifelong health benefits.

The study looked at the health impact of the UK’s World War II-era sugar rationing on a population-level – and the results are fascinating!

🔬 Specifically, the study found:

⭐️ A 35% reduction in the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes
⭐️ A 20% reduction in the risk of high blood pressure
⭐️ A 4-year delay in the onset of diabetes diagnosis
⭐️ A 2-year delay in the onset of hypertension
⭐️ A 30% decrease in obesity risk

If we want to live longer, healthier, we really need to take a serious inventory of our daily sugar intake and adjust!

Breastfeeding gives babies the BEST start in life!
✅ Fights common childhood illnesses such as upper respiratory infections, ear infections, and diarrhoea
✅ Boosts brain and overall better growth and helps prevent all forms of malnutrition (overweight and undernutrition, including micronutrient deficiencies)
✅ Helps mom heal after birth
✅ Saves money and is always ready
✅ Non-breastfed infants (< 6 months of age) have increased risks for death. The risk is estimated at 3.5% (for boys) and 4.1% (for girls)

💚 If you are living with HIV, breastfeeding is still recommended, as long as you take your treatment (ART) every day and your baby gets their medicine too. This keeps your baby protected while giving them all the benefits of breastmilk.
Even a few drops of breastmilk are packed with goodness — it contains antibodies that protects your baby and give them all the benefits they need. Your nurse or clinic can support you to exclusively breastfeed for the first 6 months and continue with solids and breastmilk for 2 years or more.
