My chiropractor clicks my back, so why can’t I just do it myself?

Or better yet, get a friend or family member to do it for me.

Chiropractors are extensively trained in the art of adjustments.

They study for many years to learn safe and effective methods to administer such treatment. By getting your friends or family to “click” your back you are putting yourself at risk of injury.

Here are some reasons why you should only be adjusted by a licensed professional:
1. They have received their education and training at a registered tertiary institution such as DUT or UJ.
2. You will receive the correct assessment and diagnosis of the problem at hand.
3. They will assess the necessary contra-indications for manipulative therapy and the safety based on the above findings.
4. You will receive follow-up care that is formulated specifically for you and your problem.

While family and friends may mean well, they typically lack the specialised training and knowledge required to perform safe and effective adjustments.

This could lead to unintended consequences, such as muscle strain, joint injury, or exacerbation of an underlying condition.

It’s always advisable to consult a registered chiropractor who can assess your specific needs, provide an accurate diagnosis, and deliver appropriate care based on their expertise and training.
