All our work is based in an ancient form of shamanism inherited from the Twisted Hairs. The teachings demonstrate an intimate and profound understanding of science, nature, physics, psychology and physiology – all the ingredients that equip us with the most efficient way to wake up, claim the best of ourselves and carry that excellence forward. To them, hair represented knowledge, so rather than only working within a single tradition they devoted themselves to travelling Turtle Island, braiding and weaving their knowledge and understanding of the world. They generously & open-heartedly shared this knowledge with those committed to seeking balance, harmony and healing. This sacred knowledge of the universal laws, the human psyche, ancient healing techniques, alignment and communication with the elements of nature, ceremonial alchemy, controlled dreaming and spiritual awakening has been handed down from teacher to student for thousands of years and endured the test of time. We are honoured to be a part of this Twisted Hair lineage and it is our privilege to uphold this tradition by sharing the knowledge, wisdom and ceremonies with you, with the same integrity and spirit that our teachers had when they shared the teachings with us.

Dear Sacred Journeys Community,

As stewards of the Teachings and Ceremonies of the Twisted Hairs Lineage here on the African continent, we hold a responsibility that we approach with care and accountability. This work has a meaningful impact on people’s lives, and for that reason, we place strong emphasis on integrity, preparation, and ethical grounding in all that we offer.

Within this Lineage, Ceremonial Facilitation is not something one steps into casually. It comes through years of personal work, apprenticeship, and ongoing accountability, and is only undertaken when it is formally recognized by one’s teachers.
𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗮𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝗶𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀.

It has recently come to our attention that a former student is publicly offering Pipe and Sweat Lodge Ceremonies, Teachings, and Shamanic Healing while representing themselves as connected to or authorized within the Twisted Hairs Lineage.

We would like to clarify that, although this individual has participated in Teachings and Ceremonies at Sacred Journeys for their own personal development, they have not completed any training, authorization, or recognition to facilitate or teach these practices.

While we respect each person’s right to follow their own path and wish them well, our role is to be clear about what we do and do not stand behind. We share this to provide clarity regarding 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵 to this sacred Lineage. We offer these Teachings and Ceremonies as part of a personal path of learning and development, and we encourage everyone to approach all ceremonial work with discernment and respect for the traditions and responsibilities involved.

Our commitment remains the same as it has always been: to be a beacon of hope and light for those who wish to grow, heal and evolve.

Maintenance and repairs is not glamorous work.
I often find myself rather posting all the lovely Ceremonial Circles, sacred fires and other 'well captured' healing experiences that happen here at Sacred Journeys.

But today I was just appreciating the capable hands, mind and body of this man, Worldweaver - who not only sits like a wise grandfather elder, leading us into our own transformations, but who also ensures all the spaces and places on this land are well oiled and in good working order.
Not an easy feat with the Retreat Centre, 5 cottages plus our home. Its A LOT!!

It reminds me of the profound Zen Buddhist description of "Before enlightenment, chop wood, carry water; after enlightenment, chop wood, carry water."

Enlightenment isn't about grand actions and photo perfect images that capture an illusion of healing and enlightenment, but rather finding presence and wonder in ordinary tasks.

This is what our 2026 focus is going to be. Will you join us?
