Profile of your Health nominee: Elisa Konyama (Unjani Clinic Botshabelo)
Elisa Konyama is a nurse-turned-entrepreneur transforming primary healthcare delivery in underserved communities across South Africa.
As the Founder and Director of Unjani Clinic Botshabelo, she leads a pioneering model that offers holistic, affordable care—including maternal health, HIV counselling, mental health support, drug rehabilitation, and in-clinic pharmacy services.
Under her leadership, the clinic serves hundreds of patients monthly, with consistent growth in reach and impact.
Elisa began her healthcare journey with a diploma in General Nursing, Community Nursing, Psychiatry, and Midwifery from the Free State School of Nursing in 2009.
She later expanded her expertise through certifications in antenatal care, immunisation, obstetric emergency management, and more.
Her clinical skills, combined with business training and entrepreneurial coaching, enabled her to scale from mobile outreach services to a sustainable, community-rooted clinic network.
Her impact goes far beyond the clinic walls. Elisa runs educational programs addressing teenage pregnancy, hosts school wellness days, and leads rural outreach events such as debates, spelling bees, and dignity drives.
She also partners with international initiatives like TIN Soldiers to provide screenings for musculoskeletal disorders in remote areas.
Elisa’s work is deeply grounded in her faith. As Chairperson of the Christian Women’s League (URCSA), she champions women’s empowerment, offers mental health support, and provides hands-on spiritual care in her community.
Known for her servant leadership, she continues to support patients directly, whether preparing meals for bereaved families or mentoring young nurses.
Her innovative clinic model is expanding to regions like Botswana and Tabantu, and her work has been recognized by the Sunday World Heroic Women Awards, Umfiki Award, WIIA Business Bootcamp, and She Awards in Johannesburg and Nairobi.
Elisa Konyama blends healthcare, faith, and empowerment—offering a powerful model for community-driven change.
