Anger is often a sign that kids are frustrated or struggling with things beyond their control. They don’t react this way on purpose. It happens because they don’t yet have the skills to identify and cope with strong emotions. Two common emotions that can lead to anger are anxiety and frustration.

Knowing how to regulate our emotions is a vital EQ skill. We can teach our children how to identify their emotions and manage them in a healthy and constructive way.

The MagicEQ Online Quick Course can help you with this! This course is a great option for busy parents and teachers to learn new EQ skills in managing their emotions positively, creating positive thinking and building self-esteem.

It equips them with life skills to help build stronger relationships, improve communication, learn positive discipline techniques and create positive interactions between parent and child or teacher and child.

There are so many social situations in school, work and life that people have to navigate every day. That’s why it’s so important for children to learn important skills, such as communication, conflict resolution, cooperation, and showing others respect and kindness. With the increases in use of technology, kids are just getting less practice in these important skills. That’s why learning and practicing social skills with fun games can be a real help.

Social skills are a critical element to helping kids succeed socially, emotionally, personally, and even academically. These are the skills are the behaviors that help children join in conversations, collaborate with peers, develop lasting friendships, self-advocate when they need help, and so much more.

Games are a great way to teach and practice social skills like conversations, turn taking, self-control, and more. These well-loved games and activities can help children to develop their social skills and can be used at school, home or in a therapeutic setting.

Technology can be a powerful tool in helping children develop emotional intelligence skills in fun and engaging ways.

Apps like Breathe, Think, Do with Sesame (ages 2–5) support problem-solving and emotional regulation, while Mood Meter helps children build self-awareness by identifying and reflecting on their emotions.

Smiling Mind offers guided mindfulness activities suitable for all ages, and the Zones of Regulation App teaches kids how to manage their emotions through interactive lessons and games.

Occupational therapy can be incredibly beneficial for many children: ones with and without disabilities, as well as kids who are neurodiverse and neurotypical.

Children often need occupational therapy to address developmental delays. A developmental delay is when a child is slow to reach one or more developmental milestones compared to other children, such as rolling over, walking, feeding and talking. For school-aged children, occupational therapy can focus more on fine motor delays, such as holding a pencil correctly, writing clearly and cutting with scissors.

Children who struggle with sensory processing issues are often referred to occupational therapists (OTs). Sensory processing difficulties can come in many different forms, whether it be a dislike of wearing clothes, sensitivity to loud noises or avoiding certain food textures. Using different techniques, an occupational therapist will implement strategies to help children stay regulated and help them manage their sensory needs.

Our wonderful occupational therapists at the Magic Blox Childrens' Wellness Centre are there to ensure your child is meeting all their developmental milestones & living up to their full potential, as well as supporting parents and caregivers in the process.

Many parents naturally prioritize their child’s academic success, often placing less emphasis on emotional intelligence — also known as EQ. However, EQ is just as important and includes five key components: self-awareness, self-regulation, empathy, social skills, and intrinsic motivation.

Research suggests that children with strong emotional intelligence are more engaged in school, build healthier relationships, and often achieve better academic results.

Here are some common habits of emotionally intelligent children:

- They use words to identify and express their emotions
- They recognize how others are feeling
- They consider different perspectives
- They are quick to offer help
- They use strategies to manage their emotions
- They confidently say “No” to peer pressure
- They regularly practise gratitude

The MagicEQ Program teaches practical life and EQ skills to support individuals from age five and up in creating a confident, connected, creative, and mindful life.

Affirmations are positive statements that, when used regularly, can help promote a growth mindset, build confidence, enhance resilience, and more. For kids, affirmations can be really important tools. They help shape a child’s inner self-narration, preventing negative self-talk and replacing it with a positive, empowering mindset.

Positive visualisation and affirmations are an important part of the MagicEQ tools that we teach and practise in our MagicEQ programmes. Children and adults can be taught to regularly see themselves in their minds as being radiantly healthy, vibrant, and actively participating in whatever activities they want to do.

Emotionally intelligent people tend to respond appropriately to emotional situations, and don’t tend to have outbursts or lash out at others. They tend to be more even-tempered, to think clearly under pressure and to take the time to feel their way through a problem rather than reacting in the moment.

Emotional intelligence (EQ) is essential for understanding yourself as well as successfully navigating your social world. While some people tend to come by these skills naturally, there are strategies than anyone can use to learn and strengthen their EQ skills.
