Happy 1st Anniversary to our incredible Parkinsonโ€™s Group! ๐ŸŒŸ What a special milestone as we celebrate one full year of weekly group sessions filled with movement, connection, encouragement, and strength. Over the past year, this group has grown into a supportive community where members continue to inspire one another every single week. ๐Ÿค

To mark the occasion, everyone came dressed in blue for Parkinsonโ€™s awareness, creating a beautiful show of unity and support. ๐Ÿ’™ It was also an honour to welcome Parkinsonโ€™s ZA founder Rakesh Harribhai to attend and celebrate this meaningful event with us.

A huge congratulations to every member who has shown dedication, resilience, and positivity throughout the year. Your commitment is truly inspiring, and we look forward to many more sessions together. Hereโ€™s to continued movement, joy, friendship, and making a difference! ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿ•บ

Thank you to and for the ongoing advocacy.

Movement and brain development are deeply connected. What may look like simple play is actually building important neural pathways that support function, independence, and participation in everyday life๐Ÿ’ก๐Ÿง

Through purposeful movement, we can support different areas of brain development:

* ๐ŸŽฏ Hand-eye coordination โ†’ improves visual-motor control and interaction with the environment
* ๐Ÿ”„ Midline crossing โ†’ supports communication between both sides of the brain
* ๐Ÿงฉ Motor planning โ†’ develops the ability to plan and sequence movement
* โš–๏ธ Balance & postural control โ†’ supports stability, regulation, and controlled movement

These are some examples of foundational skills that are essential for everyday activities like moving safely, interacting with the environment, and becoming more independent. ๐Ÿ’ก

No complicated exercises, just meaningful movement that supports both physical and cognitive development. ๐ŸŒฑ

At The Enable Centre, we use movement to support functional independence and participation in everyday life ๐Ÿค๐Ÿ’›

We are pleased to welcome Tabisa to the Enable Centre, where she joins the psychology team! ๐Ÿ˜Š

Tabisa has 15 years experience in the psychology field, having enjoyed many years working as a registered counsellor. She took a leap to further her studies becoming a clinical psychologist, after realising she yearned for more intensive understanding and intervention in the mental health field. She is new to our centre and hopes to add more inclusivity to the psychological space by offering therapy in both English and isiXhosa. ๐ŸŒ

As a mother, her activities outside of work often include jumping, playing and being cheerleader at weekend matches. โšฝ๐ŸŽ‰ She also enjoys reading and being around friends and family to relax and recharge. ๐Ÿ’›

Friday Feature: Parkinsonโ€™s Awareness Month ๐Ÿฉถ

This week we shine a light on the power of movement in people living with Parkinsonโ€™s disease. From improved mobility to renewed confidence, exercise plays a vital role in enhancing quality of life.

Through the voices of our practitioners and the journeys of our patients, we are reminded that Parkinsonโ€™s is not defined by limitations, but by resilience, consistency, and strength.

Keep moving. Keep fighting. Keep showing up ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ’š

๐ŸŒŸ Friday Feature: Ken Msuku ๐ŸŒŸ

Kenโ€™s journey is nothing short of inspiring. After experiencing a stroke in 2024, he faced challenges that would stop most in their tracks. But Ken is not most people. ๐Ÿ’ช

A seasoned athlete, having competed in 10 Comrades Marathons, his passion for running never faded. ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ”ฅ His goal? To run again, and heโ€™s proving every day that itโ€™s possible.

From not being able to run at allโ€ฆ to now running during sessions at the Enable Centre and even at home, Ken is the definition of resilience and determination. ๐Ÿ™Œ

This is what perseverance looks like. This is what courage looks like.

Weโ€™re proud to be part of your journey, Ken. The road ahead is yours! ๐Ÿš€
