Ever felt like heartbreak physically hurts? Takotsubo cardiomyopathy, or “broken heart syndrome,” is a real, temporary heart condition triggered by intense emotional or physical stress, such as the loss of a loved one, trauma, or severe heartbreak.

🫀 What happens?
A sudden surge of stress hormones (like adrenaline) weakens the left ventricle, causing it to balloon into a shape resembling a Japanese “takotsubo” pot, used to catch octopus.

Symptoms mimic a heart attack and include:
✔️ Chest pain
✔️ Shortness of breath
✔️ Irregular heartbeat

The good news? Broken heart syndrome is usually temporary and reversible with the right care. If you experience symptoms, always seek medical attention to rule out a heart attack.
