πŸ“Έβœ¨ Conference Highlights! βœ¨πŸ“Έ

We’re incredibly proud of our Chemical Pathology registrars, Dr. Riona Singh-Gansan and Dr. Kgothatjo Magolego, as well as our senior intern medical scientist, Humaira Vawda, who recently attended the EuroMedLab conference in Belgium and presented some amazing work!

Their posters covered a range of fascinating and important topics:

🧬 From laborious to effortless: transforming amino acid reporting with automation – making complex processes simpler and faster.

πŸ§ͺ An audit of lipoprotein electrophoresis with a focus on lipoprotein X: a Cape Town perspective – shining a light on a rare but important lipid marker.

πŸ‘Ά Investigation of paediatric pyroglutamic aciduria: a diagnostic approach in South Africa – offering insight into a rare condition with local relevance.

πŸ“ Serum Potassium Measurement: Dependence on Seasonal Temperature and Independence from Precentrifugation Delays ≀30 Hours – contributing important findings on how sample handling and environmental factors affect potassium results.

A special shoutout to Humaira Vawda, who was also a recipient of the AFCC young scientist award to attend this conference.

Well done for flying the ChemPath flag high! πŸŒπŸ‘

We love seeing our future specialists grow and share their work with the wider community. Keep inspiring! πŸ’™

We are very proud of Lwando Mampunye, one of our intern medical scientists, who represented South Africa at WorldLab-EuroMedLab in Rome, Italy. Lwando presented an oral and a poster on 'Integration of Germline and Tumour Genetics into a Pathology-Supported Genetic Testing Algorithm for Improved Risk Management of Breast Cancer in South Africa' in the Precision Medicine Congress Session. He was the only African oral presenter in this session. Lwando also attended the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry Young Scientist Forum where he gained important insight that can be shared with the team in South Africa. Well done Lwando!
