What Does a CT Scan Show?
• Certain types of cancer and benign (noncancerous) tumors.
• Fractures (broken bones).
• Heart disease.
• Blood clots.
• Bowel disorders (blockages, Crohn's disease).
• Brain and spinal cord diseases or injuries.
• Internal bleeding.
How a CT Scan Works
CT scanners are large machines shaped like a donut, which contain an x-ray tube and detectors on opposite sides. In the centre is a short tunnel, where the examination table slides in and out. When you enter the scanner, the x-ray equipment rotates around you, producing vital internal images. The full scan should take just a few minutes, making it a less stressful procedure for those who suffer from claustrophobia.
Preparation for a CT scan depends on whether your doctor has ordered a contrast examination. If so, you will need to refrain from eating anything for a few hours before the procedure, according to your doctor’s instructions. With intravenous contrast, you’ll receive an injection of dye that may make you feel warm or flushed and produce a metallic taste in your mouth. You will also need to remove any jewellery or metal from your person.
After a CT scan, you can continue your day normally. If you underwent a contrast scan, be sure to drink several glasses of water throughout the day to aid in the elimination of the dye.

Radiographers At The Forefront of Patient Safety

World Radiography Day celebrates and recognizes the knowledge, skills, expertise, and care that radiology plays in the support of patients by radiologists, radiographers, and radiology technologists as frontline healthcare professionals.

The World Radiography Day theme, “Radiographers at the Forefront of Patient Safety”, highlights the role that radiologists, radiographers/ radiological technologists play in promoting and maintaining radiation safety and general patient safety in all aspects of the patient journey.

This day was created to mark the anniversary of the discovery of x-rays by Wilhelm Roentgen in 1895. Radiographers worldwide celebrate this day, and create public awareness around diagnostic imaging and radiation therapy as well as promote the radiographers’ vital role as part of the healthcare team, specifically the frontline role, radiology plays in patient care.

Radiographers/ Radiological Technologists play a crucial role in applying their protocols and procedures ensuring safe practice not only in radiation but also other areas of engagement with patients.

Celebrate with us
On November 8, radiologists, radiographers, radiological technologists and professionals from related fields celebrate the tenth International Day of Radiology. New Era Radiology Inc. will be celebrating together with radiology professionals around the world!
The International Day of Radiology is an annual event held with the aim of building greater awareness of the value that radiology contributes to safe patient care and improving understanding of the vital role radiologists and radiological technologists play in the healthcare continuum.
Medical imaging is one of the most exciting and progressive disciplines in healthcare and a field of great activity in terms of technological and biological research. X-rays, MRI scans, ultrasound and numerous other medical imaging technologies, as well as the eye-catching images associated with them, are known to many people, but the exact purpose and value of these services is not widely understood.
November the 8th was chosen as it is the day that Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen discovered the existence of x-rays in 1895. International Radiology Day aims to alert the world to the stunning medical, scientific and even artistic possibilities of medical imaging, the essential role of radiologists and radiographers as part of the healthcare team in countless medical scenarios, and the high educational and professional standards required of all staff working in medical imaging.
