Fact: Donor Coordinators like Zenobia work alongside skilled recovery teams to ensure the utmost dignity, respect, and compassion in every step of the donation process.

Fact: Tissues like skin, bone, heart valves, and corneas can all be donated - helping to improve quality of life, enhance mobility, and even restore sight. Donor Coordinators like Lee-Ann ensure that every donation is handled with care and compassion, supporting the donation process to benefit those in need.

Myth: If I'm a registered organ and tissue donor, doctors won't try to save me.

Fact: It is the ethical duty of medical professionals to do everything possible to save your life. Tissue donation is only considered after all life-saving efforts have been exhausted. Our Donor Coordinators, like Laetitia, step in afterwards to fulfil your wish to give the gift of life.

Myth: I have a medical condition, so I can’t be a donor.

Fact: Don’t rule yourself out. In general, medical conditions don’t prevent tissue donation. Each potential donor is carefully assessed after passing. Donor Coordinators like Aimee guide and support families through this meaningful decision - helping to turn loss into a lasting legacy.

In Canada, the Orgamites program is already making a difference with engaging toolkits designed to introduce young learners to this lifesaving topic. Raising awareness from a young age helps normalise conversations around donation, fostering a culture of healthy living, sharing and kindness.
