Plane trees led the pollen charts across SA, except in Joburg where oak took the lead ๐Ÿ‚.
๐ŸŒพ Grass was only moderate in Pretoria.
๐Ÿƒ Durban had mould spikes.

Tree pollen has surged at coastal sites, with plane, hackberry & oak dominating across the country ๐ŸŒณ.
โš ๏ธ Durban recorded a strong peak of allergenic mould (Cladosporium).
โœจ Cape Town:
Pine & plane are the dominant trees, with oak, birch, cypress, mulberry, olive, lemon & sumac also active. Weeds (daisy, goosefoot, sedges, erica, nettle) were present. Moulds remained low.
๐Ÿ“ Other Cities:
Johannesburg, Pretoria, Bloemfontein, Kimberley โ†’ very high tree counts
Durban โ†’ allergenic mould spike + significant tree pollen
Gqeberha & George โ†’ tree pollen rising, with pine, plane & acacia

Tree pollen is peaking, especially inland. Dominant trees: hackberry, plane, mulberry, with peaks for cypress, birch, and false olive.

๐ŸŒ Inland (JHB, Pretoria, Bloem, Kimberley): Very high tree counts.
๐ŸŒ Cape Town & Durban: Increasing variety (plane, pine, birch, mulberry, cypress, gum, oak).
๐ŸŒ George & Gqeberha: Low levels, diversity rising.
๐ŸŒฑ Grasses, weeds & moulds: Mostly low.

Pollen counts were low at all sampling sites with spikes for weeds in Potchefstroom, where significant ragweed counts were recorded and Johannesburg, where mugwort counts were moderate.

The latest pollen report is now available:

Moderate grass counts were found in Potchefstroom. A significant concentration of ragweed pollen was detected at that site as well as spikes for Alternaria, Epicoccum and Cladosporium, all allergenic moulds. Moderate mould levels were also found in Pretoria.
