It can be difficult to decide whether your child should stay home from school when they feel unwell. In general, children should stay home if they have a fever, vomiting, diarrhoea, or are too tired to participate in normal activities.

Keeping sick children at home helps them recover and prevents illnesses from spreading to others.

Protecting little lungs, one small step at a time đź’™

As parents, we do everything we can to keep our babies safe, 🤒 especially from illnesses we can’t always see coming.

One of the biggest threats during the colder months is RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus). It’s a common virus that can become serious for infants, especially in their first year of life.

Now, we finally have a powerful way to protect them.
Introducing Beyfortus — a single injection designed to give babies immediate protection against RSV for the entire season.

✨ Why this matters:💉Reduces the risk of severe RSV illness💉Helps prevent hospitalisation💉Provides protection from birth, especially for vulnerable little ones💉One injection = season-long coverage

This isn’t just another vaccine — it’s a monoclonal antibody, giving your baby ready-made protection when they need it most.

💕Because when it comes to your baby’s breathing, every moment matters 💕

Let’s keep our little ones safe, healthy, and out of hospital this season.

African Vaccination Week highlights the importance of immunisation in protecting children from serious and preventable diseases. Vaccines help strengthen the immune system and play an important role in protecting both individuals and communities.

Keeping your child’s vaccinations up to date helps reduce the spread of illnesses and supports healthier families across our communities.

If you are unsure whether your child’s vaccines are up to date, speak to your healthcare provider for guidance.

Anyone else feeling the winter blue’s hitting?

Sick kids everywhere and all I want to do is lie in bed and catch up on movies 🎥🍿

The City of Cape Town has begun rolling out nearly 18,500 flu vaccines across its clinics ahead of the winter season, as health authorities warn of a rise in influenza cases.

The National Institute for Communicable Diseases has already flagged an increase in flu cases, with clinics expected to have full vaccine stock by 24 April. Vulnerable groups, including pregnant women, the elderly, and people living with chronic illnesses, will be prioritised.

Honey may seem like a natural and harmless food, but it is not safe for babies under one year old. It can contain bacteria that cause infant botulism, a rare but serious illness because babies’ digestive systems are still developing.

Always check ingredients in foods and avoid honey until your baby turns one.

Noticing small changes in your child’s development can feel uncertain… but it can also be the first step towards meaningful support.

Whether it is speech delays, difficulty with movement, or challenges with social interaction, recognising the signs early can help your child access the right care and guidance at the right time.
You do not have to figure it out alone.

Measles is a highly contagious viral infection that mainly affects children. It spreads easily through coughing, sneezing, or close contact, and outbreaks can occur when vaccination rates drop.

Early symptoms often resemble a common cold, which means measles may not be recognised straight away. Knowing what to look for can help parents act quickly.

Common symptoms of measles include:

• High fever
• Runny nose and cough
• Red or watery eyes
• A red rash that usually starts on the face and spreads to the body

While some children recover without complications, measles can lead to serious health problems, including pneumonia, dehydration, and inflammation of the brain.

The measles vaccine forms part of routine childhood immunisations and provides strong protection against infection. Ensuring that your child receives recommended vaccines helps protect not only your child but also vulnerable members of the community.

If you are unsure whether your child is fully vaccinated, speak to your healthcare provider about their immunisation record.

Protecting children starts with prevention.

Children’s skin is more sensitive to the sun, which makes proper sun protection especially important. Too much sun exposure can lead to painful sunburn and long-term skin damage.

Using sunscreen with SPF 30–50, applying it 15–20 minutes before going outdoors, and reapplying every two hours can help protect your child’s skin. It is also helpful to combine sunscreen with hats, sunglasses, and plenty of shade, especially during the hottest parts of the day.

Healthy sun habits started early can make a big difference for your child’s skin in the future.
