After a tragic incident in the US where a man lost his life on an MRI unit, Clarence Ford spoke to Guste Freitag, radiographer at Morton & Partners Riverlands, on about how such accidents can happen—and the strict safety measures usually in place to keep patients protected.

She explained that the MRI magnet is always on, which means vigilance is critical at all times. To protect patients, access to the scan room is tightly controlled, and every person—whether a patient, visitor, or staff member—is carefully screened for metal objects or implants before entry.

MRI scans are powerful tools—but only safe when everyone follows the rules.
