some very good advice here!

Half moon backbend
Day 10
Stand with feet together and imagine that sits bones connect to heel bones. Inhale arms overhead, bring hands into Kali mudra, and drop your head back. Squeeze inner thighs together, push heels down, tuck tail bone, and squeeze your butt! I get a lot of questions about to squeeze or not to squeeze and I say YES! SQUEEZE! It will protect lower spine and allow you to safely stretch hip flexors.

Drop your head back and relax neck and throat. Squeeze elbows and palms tightly together to move upper spine.

Inhale push chest arms shoulders upwards. Exhale push chest upward and reach arms back through shoulders. Keep working the backbend this way. Inhale push heels down, squeeze butt, chest & arms up....exhale chest up, arms back, eyes back. Try to isolate the bend in the upper spine, then move into middle spine, keep the coil tight in upper & middle back and then move into lower back by pushing hips forward.

Press inner feet down and contract knees and thighs. Squeeze elbows and palms tightly together. Heels down, tuck tailbone, chest up, arms and eyes back. When you are near the end push stomach out, relax your eyes on one point of focus, and try to relax your spine while heels continue pressing down and arms reach away.

This is one of my favorite backbends as it teaches students how to breathe and relax while you get a super charged shock of energy to your nervous system! If you need a wake up try the lateral stretch then the backbend. Let's see your standing backbend!

Thursday night means Dharma Yoga @ 6.30. It's cold here in Cape Town but, after we've generated lots of tapas, you'll feel as if you are lying on the beach during savasana. Pets and kids welcome.
