🌿 This week, Abalimi Bezekhaya hosted a three-day Basic Urban Agriculture Training — and what an inspiring few days it was! 🙌

More than 20 enthusiastic participants came together to learn the fundamentals of organic farming and urban gardening — from planting seeds and preparing soil to understanding how to grow healthy, sustainable food even in challenging urban conditions. 🌱💧

The training combined theory and hands-on practice: after learning about different cultivation methods and soil management in the classroom, participants got the chance to apply their new knowledge directly in the garden. 🌾

We’re proud to see so many community members taking steps toward greener cities, stronger local food systems, and a more sustainable future! 💚🌍

🌱 Open Day in Nyanga! 🌱
Last week Friday , we opened up our Garden Center to the community – a day full of sun, smiles and happy people!

Visitors had the chance to meet our team and explore all the resources we offer to support local gardeners. From seeds and tools to ideas and support – everything was on display and ready to discover. 🌾💡

Saving seeds is more than just a gardening trick – it’s a way to grow freedom, resilience, and connection. 💚

What a day! 🌱☀
Together with a wonderful team, we got our hands dirty and our hearts full as we started building a wheelchair-accessible and medicinal plant garden at Thambalethu Daycare Center. We raised the beds, planted the first seedlings, and took the first steps toward a space that’s green, inclusive, and full of life.'

🌱 Farm Visit at Feed the Khaltsha 🌿
Last Friday, we had the opportunity to visit the beautiful community garden Feed the Khaltsha – as part of a PGS verification (Participatory Guarantee System). 💚

The goal of the visit was to check whether the garden is truly following organic farming practices and complying with the rules set by our community. Together with fellow farmers and community members, we asked questions, shared knowledge, and took a closer look at how things are growing. 🔍

✨ The garden looks fantastic – well cared for, diverse, and full of life. It’s always a pleasure to walk through such a successful and inspiring space.

Training is one of our core pillars 🌱
In this post, we’re sharing an overview of the main courses we offer at our garden centres.

💡 Our Basic Urban Farming course takes place every two weeks at both of our centres — it's the heart of what we do.

For our other two courses, we listen closely to the needs of our community. Based on those needs, we develop tailored workshops with relevant topics and flexible dates.

Each workshop includes:
📄 Handouts
🥗 A shared lunch
👩🏾‍🌾 And ongoing support — we’re here to answer questions and do follow-up visits whenever needed.
