After a tragic incident in the US where a man lost his life on an MRI unit, Clarence Ford spoke to Guste Freitag, radiographer at Morton & Partners Riverlands, on about how such accidents can happen—and the strict safety measures usually in place to keep patients protected.

She explained that the MRI magnet is always on, which means vigilance is critical at all times. To protect patients, access to the scan room is tightly controlled, and every person—whether a patient, visitor, or staff member—is carefully screened for metal objects or implants before entry.

MRI scans are powerful tools—but only safe when everyone follows the rules.

🧡 Handover Day Magic! 🧡

Today, the Morton Spirit was out in full force as we officially handed over all your generous donations to as part of this year’s TLC Party with 94.5.

Thanks to the incredible support from our staff, patients, and community, we collected boxes overflowing with warm winter essentials — from blankets and jackets to scarves, socks, and more. These items will go a long way in bringing comfort to children in need across the Cape this winter.

We are proud to stand with The Homestead in their mission and grateful to have been part of such a heartfelt initiative once again.

From Crisis to Courage: Kendreya’s Journey to Healing

Baby Kendreya was born with a severe congenital heart condition. When delays in the public sector put her life at risk, a group of dedicated medical professionals and organisations—including our team Morton & Partners Radiologists at Christiaan Barnard —stepped in.

Thanks to the coordinated efforts of Young Hearts Africa Foundation, Netcare Limited Dr Wilhelm Lichtenberg, Dr Susan Vosloo, Dr Marie Bosman, Wings and Wishes and others, Kendreya received the life-saving surgery she desperately needed. Today, she’s thriving.

We are honoured to have played a role in her journey. This is the power of collaboration—and compassion. 💞

🎙️ Dr Paul Scholtz on CapeTalk: “Gut health is not a taboo topic anymore.” 🎙️

This afternoon, Sara-Jayne Makwala King (in for Pippa Hudson) spoke with Dr Paul Scholtz, a leading radiologist at Morton & Partners and the first African to complete the prestigious EDGAR qualification in gastrointestinal imaging.

In honour of Men’s Health Month, Dr Scholtz encouraged men to prioritise screening for abdominal and gastrointestinal cancers—especially when symptoms arise.

🗣️ “We can talk about it more—gut health shouldn't be a taboo topic. Colorectal cancer is associated with lifestyle choices like obesity, smoking, and drinking,” he said, urging men not to delay seeking medical attention.

With expertise in abdominal and pelvic imaging, Dr Scholtz reminded listeners that early detection is key—and modern radiology tools make that easier than ever.
