Meet the faces behind ShuShu ❤️
Jari isn’t just the owner… sauna is quite literally in his DNA. He’s a Finnish-Canadian carpenter who grew up in a family where building saunas wasn’t a hobby, it was just part of life. From the age of 11, he was learning alongside his dad and grandfather, building traditional Finnish saunas in every home they lived in. It’s something that’s been passed down through generations… and you can feel that the moment you step inside.
And then there’s Mix. She grew up here in Cape Town, but spent the last decade in the North, fully immersed in sauna culture. Both of them have this deep respect for it, not just as a ritual, but for everything it holds… culturally, physically, emotionally.
It was only after a trip to Finland, meeting Jari’s nephew, that something clicked. Before moving back to Cape Town, they knew they wanted to bring this way of living and all the health and healing that comes with it - back home.
And that’s how ShuShu was born.
A space rooted in tradition, but placed here… between the ocean, the mountains, and this wild, beautiful energy of Cape Town.
Even the name ‘ShuShu’ comes from the Xhosa word for “hot.” It feels like a meeting point of cultures, of stories, of worlds. 🫶🏼
It’s more than just a sauna. It’s something they’ve built with so much intention. And what makes it even more special… is knowing Jari has been quietly working on building ShuShu’s second sauna.
We’re so excited for what’s coming. ✨
