I think narcissists look for people who shine very brightly. People who stand out because of their strength, compassion, intelligence, creativity, or resilience. People with warmth in their spirit and light in their eyes. They’re not attracted to weakness—they’re attracted to excellence. But not because they want to celebrate it or protect it. They’re drawn to that light the way a moth is drawn to a flame: with obsession, with hunger, and with a silent, destructive intent.

Narcissists look for a trophy. They want someone who makes them look good by association—someone whose presence validates their sense of superiority. They want the partner everyone admires, the one who turns heads when they walk into a room, the one who uplifts and inspires others. To them, being attached to someone like that isn’t about love—it’s about leverage. They see your shine as something they can use, a tool to inflate their ego and complete the image they’ve built for the outside world.

But here’s the twist—they don’t actually know how to handle someone who shines so brightly. Once they’ve secured you—once they feel they’ve “won” the prize—they slowly begin to panic. Because your light, your independence, your confidence begins to make them feel small. They feel exposed next to your strength. Your authenticity reminds them of how fake they are. Your empathy highlights their emotional emptiness. And instead of admiring you for it, they begin to resent you.

When the honeymoon phase is over, when the mask starts to slip and reality begins to settle in, they feel threatened. Deep down, they fear being abandoned, being seen as “less than,” or being revealed for who they truly are beneath the charm. And instead of rising to meet your level, they try to drag you down. To protect their fragile ego, they begin to chip away at your sense of self. The same qualities they once praised become the ones they mock or criticize. They’ll gaslight you, isolate you, belittle you, and blame you for everything—turning the relationship into an emotional battleground where only they are allowed to win.

In their mind, destroying you is the only way to feel safe again. To feel powerful. To maintain control. And so, piece by piece, they try to dim your light. Not because you weren’t enough—but because you were too much for them. Too real. Too kind. Too strong. Too self-aware.

And perhaps the most painful part is realizing this: the love you thought you had wasn’t love at all. It was a performance, an illusion, a trap. A way to pull you close so they could feed on your light and then blame you for the darkness they carried all along.

But here’s what they never expect—you will rise again. And when you do, your light will be even brighter, because it will be powered by truth, healing, and the unshakable realization that their attempts to destroy you only proved how powerful you really are.

The reason people in a toxic family won't heal is because they have one another & bond over their denial. They hide in each other's shadows. The reason the cycle breaker chooses to heal is because those people have never supported them & healing is the only lifeline they have.

Important things to remember when you are married or in a serious relationship:

Don’t ever assume your partner feels loved.
Love needs reminders through actions, not just words.

Date nights are a must.
Doesn’t matter if you go out, or stay in.
Time alone together matters.

Talking openly about what you want to change in your relationship is important.
Nothing gets better by staying silent.

Learn each other’s love language.
We all don’t perceive love the same way.
What makes you feel seen might not do the same for them.

Go to bed mad sometimes.
Don’t force a resolution.
Sleeping on it does help.
Sometimes space is love, too.

When you fight, don’t just say “I’m sorry.”
Say what you’re sorry for.
Say how you’ll do better next time.
Accountability builds trust.

It will get boring sometimes.
Every couple goes through the “boring” stage.
It’s normal.
It will fade, but it won’t fade on its own.
This is the time you have to show up the most.

Some days you will have to pull more weight than your partner, and some days, they’ll carry you.
That’s how balance works.

Check in on each other’s mental health.
Not just with “how are you?” but with “what’s been heavy lately?”
Or “how can I support you better?”

It’s okay to go to couples counseling.
It helps.
It doesn’t mean you’re broken.
It means you care enough to grow.

Talk about money.
Talk about intimacy.
Talk about resentment.
Don’t avoid the hard conversations, they’re where closeness is born.

Turn off the phones an hour before bed and talk.
Even if it’s about nothing.
Connection lives in the small moments.

Ask questions like:
“What do you need more of from me?”
“What’s something I’ve stopped doing that you miss?”

Be kind.
Even when you’re tired.
Even when they’re annoying.
Especially then.

Love each other.
Fight for each other.
Protect each other.

Never forget that love isn’t always fireworks.
Sometimes it’s just showing up again and again,
when it would be easier not to.

Love is not always easy.
But damn, is it ever worth it.

Emotional exhaustion can manifest differently in different people. Here are some common signs:

Physical Signs
1. Chronic fatigue: Feeling physically, mentally, and emotionally drained.
2. Insomnia or sleep disturbances: Difficulty sleeping or experiencing restless sleep.
3. Headaches or migraines: Frequent or severe headaches.
4. Digestive problems: Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), acid reflux, or stomach ulcers.

Emotional Signs
1. Loss of motivation: Feeling hopeless, detached, or disconnected from activities and people.
2. Increased irritability: Feeling short-tempered, snappish, or impatient.
3. Mood swings: Experiencing intense emotional shifts, such as anxiety, depression, or anger.
4. Reduced empathy: Feeling numb or disconnected from others' emotions and needs.

Behavioral Signs
1. Withdrawal: Avoiding social interactions, relationships, or activities.
2. Procrastination: Putting off tasks, decisions, or responsibilities.
3. Substance abuse: Using substances to cope with emotions or stress.
4. Increased absenteeism: Frequently missing work, school, or social events.

Cognitive Signs
1. Difficulty concentrating: Struggling to focus, make decisions, or solve problems.
2. Memory problems: Experiencing memory lapses or difficulty learning new information.
3. Negative self-talk: Engaging in self-criticism, self-doubt, or pessimistic thinking.
4. Loss of purpose: Feeling uncertain or disconnected from one's values, goals, or passions.
