Urgent Appeal: Eskom Prepaid Meter Failures Causing Severe Business Losses in Airport Industria Eskom Hld SOC LtdNews24.comCarte BlancheCape TimesCape Argus@bostoncirclewarehouses
Airport IndustriaCity of Cape TownIOL News
I am writing on behalf of several tenants at the Boston Circle warehouses in Airport Industria, Cape Town, to highlight an ongoing and deeply concerning issue with Eskom’s prepaid electricity meters.
Following a recent switch from conventional billing to prepaid meters, we have been left without reliable electricity supply for weeks. The meters either fail to read correctly or reject valid vouchers — despite multiple attempts to resolve the issue through Eskom’s call centre. The responses we receive are generic, scripted, and entirely ineffective. No resolution has been offered, and no technician has been dispatched.
This failure in service delivery is not just inconvenient — it is catastrophic. Businesses are losing thousands of rands in income, operations have ground to a halt, and we are now facing the possibility of laying off personnel due to sustained losses. The impact on productivity, employment, and morale is devastating.
We urge Eskom and relevant authorities to take immediate action. We also call on local media to investigate and amplify this issue, as it affects not just our tenants but potentially many other businesses in Eskom-supplied areas.
Sincerely,
Len Weideman
