Dear family and friends of Sherwood House,

To say it’s been a trying week would be an understatement. Our team have rallied in the most difficult of circumstances and if you can believe it, residents have settled back into the modern wing and we are operating as normal. The beautiful Victorian section is irreparably lost however.

The Wynberg Fire station have been brilliant and visited several times to ensure the integrity of the affected parts and vital in assisting in our ongoing health and safely efforts.

You, the community have been entirely generous with donations and well wishes - we thank each and all of you.

Dear residents and families of Sherwood House,

We regret to inform you that last night, on May 1, a part of our beloved Sherwood House nursing home was damaged by fire. We want to assure you that all of our residents were safely evacuated by our dedicated staff, who worked tirelessly to ensure their safety and wellbeing.

In the meantime, we want to express our deepest gratitude to our night staff, the Wynberg Fire Station, first responders, local security services and neighbours, who worked tirelessly to ensure the safety and comfort of our residents.

We will continue to provide updates.

Our resident white squirrel was spotted earlier in the week enjoying the lush gardens at Sherwood House. It's probably high time we name her - best suggestions please?

The white squirrel is a very positive omen. It symbolizes good luck, change and abundance. It's estimated that the odds of a female grey squirrel giving birth to an albino offspring are 1 in 100,000!!! Truly a rare treat to have on our doorstep.

Huge thank you to Mishpratt photography for the beautiful photographs of Sherwood House.

Did you know: The original manor house was built by the famous botanist Dr Harry Bolus at the turn of the last century. The house is typical of the grand Victorian mansions that started blossoming in the 1870’s in Cape Town’s fashionable southern suburbs.
