Why is physio often the last priority or a forgotten profession? We often see patients who have had back pain, chronic pain syndromes or injuries for years. They have been plied with plenty of medications but never seen or been referred for physio. Is it lack of awareness? misunderstanding of a physios role? or lack of finances? You do not need a referral to see a physio and often the sooner you get the right treatment, exercises or advise, the quicker you can recover or learn to manage your condition in the right way. I saw a patient last week with a history of 8 years of pain in her leg. Pain is gone in 2 sessions. She is now pretty angry with her GP who threw anti inflammatories at it time and time again.

A stronger presence in community health could transform patient outcomes and system efficiency.
