While sports injuries are part and parcel of professional sports, traditional treatment approaches – such as rest, physiotherapy, and surgery – rarely promote rapid and complete healing. Fortunately, medical science is constantly evolving, with the field of regenerative medicine showing great potential in revolutionising the recovery rates of sports injuries. A key treatment in this space is stem cell therapy.

Dr Barlodien Kotze (SCULPTIQUE - Centre of Excellence) explains what stem cells are, what makes them great for expediting tissue regeneration, and what treatment approaches are currently available. While challenges and knowledge gaps exist – and must be addressed through science-backed research and robust dialogue – the promise held by stem cell therapy is both clear and vast.

From faster recovery times to reduced pain and inflammation, improved tissue quality, and enhanced functional outcomes, it appears that the future of sports injury management is bright indeed.

The Sculptique Story

Though there are different norms of beauty, there are certain qualities which seem globally to transcend these differences in determining what is visually pleasing.

Aesthetically pleasing features include symmetry, smooth convex (rounded) contours and even skin tone and texture. As we age we lose volume in the face and fat pads in the face are affected by gravity. Dr Kotzé believes in restoration of facial symmetry and volume, as well as a smooth facial contour.

In order to achieve this, a comprehensive approach must be taken and multiple modalities used. Dermal fillers and Botulinum toxin A plays a major role in this process.
