The Best Practices for Yoga in Schools is the first book of its kind. It was recently released by the Yoga Service Council as a guide for yoga in schools, and is the first volume in their series of Best Practices guides (next up – yoga for veterans!).

Children derive enormous benefits from yoga. Physically, it inhances their flexibility, strenght, coordination , and body awarness. In addition, their concentration and sense of calmness and relaxation improve. Doing yoga, children exercise , play , connect more deeply with inner self and develop an intimate relationship with the natural world around them . Yoga brings that inner light that all children have , to the surface.
Yoga at an early age encourages self- esteem with a physical activity that is noncompetitive , and fostering compassion and cooperation - instead of opposition - is a great gift to give to our children.

Anti-gravity muscles are generally weak. So they need to be developed in childhood. Yoga poses teach children as young as five to hold steady positions for a long period of time. Yoga improves flexibility and muscle tone and is excellent for developing concentration.
