Belly Baby Doula Services The job of a birth doula is...
to make birth easier and more peaceful through emotional support and physical comfort—regardless of where a mother births

A birth is not just one day in a woman’s life. It is a life transforming experience which will impact how she is as a woman, the way she mothers her child and especially her emotional and mental state. It is not what occurred at the birth or the type of birthing that stays with her, rather how she was made to feel on the day, the way she was treated, the words that she heard, the support she received and the sense of safety that she felt. This is something that will be etched into her memory for a lifetime.

“During the third stage of labor, you may still feel strong contractions - but not as intense as during the active part of labor.

While you are smitten with your precious baby looking back at you, your birth is actually not over yet and you'll be asked to push yet one or twice more to push your placenta out.

I always love to capture mom's expression as she delivers her placenta and realizes that - thank goodness- it has no bones!

Once the placenta is born, it will be encapsulated, buried, cooked, or perhaps turned into art.

I encourage you to make it a ceremony of gratitude because 'She' is your baby's genetic blueprint; therefore precious and equally extraordinary.”

✅When pushing, the best approach to prevent perineal trauma is to let the birther to do what comes naturally.✅

❌Coached, forceful purple pushing decreases oxygen to the fetus, leading to interventions and also increases perineal trauma.❌

Vernix caseosa, also known as vernix, is the waxy or cheese-like white substance found coating the skin of newborn human babies. It begins to form at about 27 weeks. It is produced by dedicated cells that play protective roles during fetal development and for a few hours after birth.

Don't wash it off!! Rub it in. It's the best lubricant for the baby's skin once they are 🌏 earthside🌎

𝔹𝕖𝕟𝕖𝕗𝕚𝕥𝕤 𝕀𝕟𝕔𝕝𝕦𝕕𝕖:🌻⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✅Germ fighting superhero - one of the primary purposes of vernix is to protect the infant from unwanted pathogens, both in the womb and out ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✅Controls temperature - with its thick, waxy coating, vernix helps to insulate the baby. infants who have it immediately washed off have a significantly higher rate of heat loss⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✅Skin cleanser and antioxidant - it offers a protective covering while going through the birth canal, allowing baby to pick up good bacteria & potentially avoid overgrowths of bad bacteria, viruses and fungi⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What purpose does vernix serve?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🌿In the womb⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Prevents loss of electrolytes and fluids⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Acts as a microbial barrier from unwanted pathogens⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Provides a protective layer to facilitate skin growth⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🌿Out of the womb⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Decreases skin pH and helps form the protective acid mantle⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Protects from pathogens⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Moisturizes and keeps skin soft⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Contains that new baby smell to help mom and baby bond during the golden hour

Don’t wash that baby!

Vernix (also known as vernix caseosa) has numerous positive effects in newly-born babies. It is most commonly seen in babies born prior to 40 weeks.

This amazing substance:

✨ protects baby’s skin in-utero.
✨ helps a baby’s skin adapt to life outside the uterus.
✨acts as an insulator and helps baby regulate his/her temperature post-birth.
✨ contains antibacterial properties, helping to protect baby from infection.
✨ can help collect beneficial bacteria from the birth canal and during skin to skin contact, positively contributing to baby’s newly-developing immune system.

Don’t wipe it off or rub it in!
