It is an NPO, NGO based in Lavender Hill, Cape Town, working with women and children suffering from sexual and physical abuse. Our current projects our:
SUPPORT GROUP FOR YOUNG WOMEN-Currently we are working with 90 women suffering from domestic and sexual abuse. CHILDREN'S CRAFTS-Arts PROGRAM-We work with about 100 children suffering from abuse daily, from different schools around the Lavender Hill area. ELDERLY SUPPORT GROUP-Currently working with 60 elderly women, who are victims of abuse. ARTS AND CRAFTS-Arts and Crafts are taught to the women in the hope that they can use these skills to generate a source of income. Arts and Crafts include, hats, clocks, various types of jewelry and lamp shades. More of these crafts can be viewed on the website. KITCHEN-Our feeding scheme is currently reaching out to around 200 people in the community. SAFE HOUSE-Our emergency safe house accommodates women and children who have been abused. We can accommodate them for up to 48 hours where we then arrange a shelter for them or refer them to Social Development. VOLUNTEER PROGRAM AND INTERNSHIPS-We are currently recruiting volunteers from overseas. This is a very rewarding and eye opening experience where you are able to share your skills with the Lavender Hill Community. Volunteers are currently organizing IT training, Music, Sports and Business Skills. March Month Human Rights Month.
Creating GBV Safer Spaces for Young People using,

Sewing, Baking and Printing for Sustainability as a GBV intervention program 2026,

Uthando South Africa and Philisa Abafazi Bethu SA took the partnership Hearts and Hand again with the support of Travel Eleviate Tourism Company and we welcomed our 2nd Cohort from Upington, Grobblershoop and Wegdraai to our class.

We wish to thank our Northrern Cape 2025 Cohort members Minnies and Naomi Slingers who recruited this special group of Young Women,

and we want to Honor during this International Womens Month Roshana Naidoo who fundraising skills allowed this beautiful 12 weeks of dreaming to materialize.

One of our Directors dreams of creating Safer Spaces for All,

18 Months ago she voiced to John Winship and Terry Lancaster and Rotary Club of Newlands and Coca-Cola Peninsula Beverages after we opened the Emergency GBV Safehouse for Children, 0-15yrs in distres was

that we needed an additional safe space for Young Children, to learn and explore.

They looked at her with that Lucinda and her dreams look :-) and here we go again, đź’śbut
9th February 2026, saw the arrival of,

67 Beautiful Children at Philisa Young Minds Academy at Philisa Abafazi Bethu SA

Container Land SA constructed the ECD centre and we remain grateful to brothers Hoffman and Herman Hoffman

Our Early Childhood Development centre is managed and facilitated by 4 Young Qualified professionals, the uniforms and aprons are made by our Very own Reypen and the Seniors of our club in our own sewing room.

Our Children are Happy and safe and so I share with the Community our newest Children intervention program.

Please note the school are full for the 2026 Academic year and we will take new applications for the 2027 Academic year in June 2026.
