Imani Treatment

Imani Treatment Imani offers a full continuum of care necessary to complete the recovery process. Treatment can take 4 weeks to 6 months depending on what is required.

The Imani eating disorder treatment programme is tailored to the individual needs of each client, and takes into consideration the way the disorder manifests itself in a person's lifestyle. The counselling team guides the individual in learning assertiveness skills, positive body image, self-esteem, feeling management and relapse prevention. We aim to restore the individual to a place of self-acceptance and self-worth, where he or she can pursue a rich and rewarding life, free of fear and despair.

anon)🌿 Climbing Together: A Milestone in Recovery 🌿
At Imani, every step in recovery matters. Recently, Renske and Pien reached a special milestone — climbing Lion’s Head together, supported and guided by our team. Their friendship became a source of strength, showing how connection and trust help in the healing journey.

"I learned that the opposite of addiction is connection… I’m so grateful to have met a true friend here." — Imani Client (anon)
"With her, I can be myself without judgment… I’m so grateful our paths crossed." — Imani Client (anon)

This climb symbolises courage, reflection, and stepping into the next chapter of their lives with confidence. From all of us at Imani, we wish them continued strength and courage as they take their next steps forward.

🌿 In Moments of Quiet and Reflection 🌿

In the quiet of the forest, where sunlight filters gently through the canopy, there is a stillness that asks nothing of you but to pause.
Here, in these moments between breaths, life seems to slow, and the mind finds room to simply be.
The rustle of leaves, the distant call of a bird, the earthy scent of moss and soil—each small detail a reminder that being present is a gift, a gentle way of appreciating the here and now.

The View Ahead 🌿
Standing on Table Mountain, everything feels still – the city below, the ocean beyond, the quiet air inviting you to breathe a little deeper.

At Imani, recovery often begins in moments like this – small pauses that open up space for reflection, courage, and renewed perspective. Healing isn’t about rushing to the top; it’s about learning to see life with softer, clearer eyes.

🌿 We Are Not Alone 🌿
Recovery isn’t something we do alone — it’s something we do together.
Having a sponsor means having someone who understands. Someone who listens, guides, and reminds you that you’re not walking this path by yourself.
💗 They’ve been there.
💗 They offer honesty and accountability.
💗 They help you grow — one step at a time.

At Imani Treatment Centre, we believe in the power of connection. Sponsorship reminds us that recovery is not about perfection, but progress — and shared strength.

Take the Lead
At Imani Treatment Centre, volunteering plays a special role in recovery.
Working with the rescue dogs at WOOF Project gives our clients the chance to “take the lead” — to give back, rediscover purpose, and reconnect with like-minded people.
For one client, who had always struggled with social anxiety, that connection proved deeply healing:
“Spending time with the dogs — and the people who care for them — has given me friendship, laughter, and kindness. Helping rebuild the lives of these strays — and being part of a community built on kindness and hope — keeps me grounded on my path, in a life worth staying in.”
Sometimes, healing begins with the simplest acts of care — and the courage to connect.

At Imani Treatment Centre, “A Goodbye Letter to My Eating Disorder” is an assignment often given to clients as part of their therapeutic process — when they are ready for it.
It’s a deeply personal exercise in self-reflection and release — a chance to say farewell to something that once felt like a friend, yet caused so much harm.
The following letter, written by one of our clients and shared anonymously with her permission, captures the courage it takes to say goodbye:
“I don’t even know where or how to start saying goodbye to you, because I still haven’t figured out where you end and where I begin. What I do know is that I’m sick of you. You’ve been with me for so long, Luna. I looked up to you. I created you… but you ruined my life.” (Read the full letter on the Imani Blog here:

Her words remind us that recovery is not about perfection — it’s about honesty, courage, and the willingness to say enough.

At Imani, we walk beside our clients as they take those brave steps toward freedom, self-acceptance, and healing.

Finding Freedom: When Recovery Takes Flight

“Today I was able to let go of my fears, thoughts, and eating disorder for a while and just enjoy the beautiful view over Cape Town. I felt as free as a bird.” — Imani client

There’s a moment on the edge of Signal Hill when the ground falls away, the wind catches, and suddenly — you’re flying.
For many of our clients, this was more than a thrill-seeking adventure. It was a celebration of what a healthy body — and a trusting relationship with that body — can make possible.
Recovery allows the body to become strong, grounded, and free again. Standing at the launch point above Cape Town, harnesses secured and hearts racing, our clients took that leap — a powerful reminder that the healthy body can take us to new heights, both literally and emotionally.
At Imani, we celebrate these moments — when courage meets recovery, and life begins to expand once more.

When the Heart Opens Again
Last night, we gathered on Signal Hill for supper as the sun slipped into the sea — a simple, beautiful moment of connection. 🌅

For many living with an eating disorder, emotions can fade over time. But in that golden light, something stirred. Hands raised in heart shapes, laughter and tears — gentle reminders that to feel again is to begin to heal.
At Imani, we believe recovery is about more than nourishment; it’s about awakening the heart, rebuilding connection, and rediscovering joy. 💛

TRUTH: Bulimia is a serious mental health condition. Compulsive eating and purging are coping mechanisms for emotional pain, stress, or trauma — not superficial motives.

Strength beyond Self
Even when the skies are cloudy, there is beauty, there is power, there is something greater than ourselves.
One of our clients recently shared this breathtaking ocean photo along with these words: "Thank you Imani for helping me along my journey of understanding higher power. If this isn’t bigger than me, then I don’t know what is!"

At Imani Treatment Centre, we believe recovery is not something we do alone. For many, discovering a power greater than ourselves becomes a source of strength, comfort, and hope. Whether you call it nature, faith, connection, or simply the beauty of life itself — acknowledging something bigger can help guide the path to healing.
