Imani Treatment

Imani Treatment Imani offers a full continuum of care necessary to complete the recovery process. Treatment can take 4 weeks to 6 months depending on what is required.

The Imani eating disorder treatment programme is tailored to the individual needs of each client, and takes into consideration the way the disorder manifests itself in a person's lifestyle. The counselling team guides the individual in learning assertiveness skills, positive body image, self-esteem, feeling management and relapse prevention. We aim to restore the individual to a place of self-acceptance and self-worth, where he or she can pursue a rich and rewarding life, free of fear and despair.

💙🌿Finding Stillness 🌿💙
Eating disorders often bring overwhelming mental noise. Constant rules, fears, intrusive thoughts and harsh self-criticism can make the mind feel busy and unsettled. When you are caught in this cycle, it can feel almost impossible to find clarity or peace.
Recovery is not about forcing the mind into silence. Healing often begins when the conditions for calm are slowly restored.
With time, compassionate support and consistent nourishment, the mind can begin to settle. Just like still water gradually becomes clear, our thoughts can soften and become less overwhelming when we are given the space and care to heal. 💧
Recovery does not always look dramatic.Sometimes it looks like quiet moments, gentle progress and learning to trust the calm again. ☁️

💛Recovery requires honesty💛
In eating disorder recovery, honesty is often one of the most difficult and most important steps. Eating disorders rely on secrecy to survive. They grow stronger when behaviours are hidden, when struggles are minimised, and when shame keeps you silent.
Honesty in recovery is not about being perfect. It is about being truthful. It is telling your treatment team when you have engaged in behaviours. It is admitting when you are negotiating portions, skipping snacks, or feeling overwhelmed by urges. It is reaching out for support before things escalate rather than after.
Being honest can feel uncomfortable, but it creates space for real change. When behaviours are brought into the open, they can be understood, challenged, and treated. When struggles are spoken out loud, they lose some of their power.
Recovery does not require perfection. It requires courage. And often, courage begins with honesty.

💙🐧 Side by Side 💙🐧
Recovery is not a solo journey. It is a we programme.
At Imani, healing happens in community. In shared meals, shared courage, shared laughter, and shared “I did not think I could do this” moments.
Together, our clients begin doing things they have not been able to do in a long time.Trying. Exploring. Re engaging. Living.
Recently, some of our clients visited the penguin colony at Boulders Beach. Standing side by side and taking in something simple and beautiful. A reminder that growth often happens quietly, and together.
You do not have to do this alone 🤍

🌅 Finding Freedom 🌅
Recovery begins long before the mountain top.It begins with the will to change.
The courage to say, “I want something different.”The strength to choose it again and again.
Freedom is not found all at once.It is found in each brave decision along the way.

Gratitude Changes Everything 🐶💛
At Imani ,Treatment Center for Eating Disorders, we believe that healing does not only happen within four walls. An important part of recovery is reconnecting with purpose, community, and the simple joys that make life meaningful.
Recently, some of our clients spent time volunteering at DARG, and the experience left a lasting impact.
One client shared:
"Spending time with the dogs at DARG has really contributed to my recovery, helping me heal. The dogs gave me a very special feeling: gratitude. By simply enjoying your attention and the time you spend with them, the dogs show their thankfulness, which reminded me also to appreciate the little things in life and be grateful for what I have. During my recovery journey at Imani, I have truly learned to value gratitude and the simple joys that make life meaningful. I must admit, this experience has really shifted my perspective on life and recovery."
There is something profoundly powerful about giving back. In offering our time and care, we often receive far more in return. The unconditional appreciation reflected in a dog’s eyes reminds us that connection, presence, and gratitude are not small things. They are foundations for lasting recovery. 🐶💛

💪 SHAKES BEFORE SUNRISE💪
Protein shakes. Gym routines. Food rules.
All of it framed as discipline and health.

Many men living with eating disorders don’t recognise them as such. Instead, behaviours are labelled as commitment, fitness, or self-control — making them harder to identify and easier to ignore.

Disordered eating in men often looks like rigid “clean eating,” compulsive exercise, muscle dysmorphia, or a growing dependence on supplements and body control. These patterns are frequently praised, not questioned.

The Life I Never Thought Possible
A personal recovery story.
We can’t think of a more fitting way to begin the year than by sharing an inspiring recovery story.
When Marietta arrived at Imani Treatment Centre, she believed that life without her eating disorder was impossible. Her recovery journey was not easy or linear. It required courage, faith, support, and the gradual rebuilding of trust in herself, her body, and in life.
Today, Marietta is living a life she once believed was out of reach. She now shares her journey from eating disorder recovery to a life filled with hope, purpose, marriage, and motherhood.
Her story is shared in her own words, and we hope it offers encouragement to anyone who may be struggling, or to those supporting someone on their recovery journey.

💧Bottlers and Breakthroughs💧
At Imani, every member of our team brings unique strengths and creative tools to help people navigate difficult emotions. One practice that has become especially powerful is the Water Bottle Technique, developed and facilitated by our Recovery Assistant, Collette. This simple yet meaningful exercise uses a water-filled bottle as both a physical and symbolic tool to help individuals externalise emotions that have been held inside.
Clients are invited to imagine feelings of anger, hurt, frustration, or resentment being contained within the bottle. This process moves overwhelming emotions from an internal space into something tangible and visible. When they feel ready, clients are encouraged to throw the bottle while shouting, screaming, or using strong language, giving voice to emotions that may have been silenced for years.
For many, this is the first time they have ever expressed anger out loud in a safe and supportive environment. It is a hands-on, grounding practice that shows how emotions can be released intentionally, safely, and meaningfully.

🛝Play is not childish. It is healing🛝
Many people living with eating disorders carry emotional wounds that began long before the symptoms appeared. These younger parts of ourselves often learned to cope by staying quiet, staying small or staying in control. Inner child work helps us reconnect with those parts with compassion.
At Imani, we encourage moments of simple joy as part of the healing process. Swinging in a park, feeling the sun on your skin, laughing without fear of judgment. These small moments can help us reconnect with our inner child in a safe and gentle way.
Recovery is not only about restoring physical health. It is also about giving the younger self inside you the kindness, comfort and support they never received. When you take time to play, rest or simply breathe, you are saying to that inner child:You are safe now. I am here. You matter.

💛A Year Sober. A Full Heart💛
A Heartfelt Message from a Former Client...
“Last week, I celebrated an incredible milestone: one full year of sobriety. It is still hard to believe that I have come this far.
When I arrived at Imani, I was frightened and unsure of myself, but I was welcomed with warmth and open arms. I felt supported through moments of fear, tears, doubt and breakthrough. I was listened to without judgment and encouraged in ways that helped me rebuild my confidence and reconnect with hope.
Recovery is not a straight line, and I know the journey ahead will still have its challenges. But I carry this milestone with a full heart, and I carry the lessons I learned at Imani with me every day.
I am so grateful for everything I received there, and I hold that gratitude close as I continue moving forward.” ~ Luna

☁️ Shared Hope ☁️
Raised Hands. Drawn Hearts. Healing Together. 🙌❤️
Standing together on Table Mountain with hearts lifted high we are reminded that recovery is carried by connection, by the people who walk with us, cheer for us, and believe in us.
Held by more than the view, we are supported by community and by the quiet reminder that healing becomes powerful when we choose it together.
Moments like these show how recovery is not only a journey of courage but also a celebration of the wonder of God’s creation, a reminder that beauty, hope, and new beginnings are always within reach.
At Imani we believe that shared strength lights the way forward.
