Imani Treatment

Imani Treatment Imani offers a full continuum of care necessary to complete the recovery process. Treatment can take 4 weeks to 6 months depending on what is required.

The Imani eating disorder treatment programme is tailored to the individual needs of each client, and takes into consideration the way the disorder manifests itself in a person's lifestyle. The counselling team guides the individual in learning assertiveness skills, positive body image, self-esteem, feeling management and relapse prevention. We aim to restore the individual to a place of self-acce

ptance and self-worth, where he or she can pursue a rich and rewarding life, free of fear and despair.

🌿 Recovery & Real Connection 🌿

At Imani, healing doesn’t happen in isolation — it happens in community. Most eating disorders thrive in silence and secrecy, but when you walk through the doors of Imani, you're met with something different: connection, support, and the kind of friendships that carry you through the hardest days.

One of our clients left recently, and her peers created something deeply meaningful — a gift filled with love and encouragement to remind her that even though she’s leaving the space, she's never alone.

✨ A Creativity Jar, filled with prompts to reignite her spark whenever she feels stuck.
✨ A bundle of "Open When" letters — tiny time capsules of love, for moments when doubt creeps in or she just needs a little light.

These acts of care — from one recovering heart to another — are part of what makes the Imani community so special. Healing isn’t just about what happens in therapy… it’s about showing up for each other, again and again.

🌊🐎 Reins and Recovery 🐎🌊

Recovery is about more than symptom relief — it’s about returning to yourself, to trust, to connection, and to the quiet beauty of being alive.

At Imani Treatment Centre, Specialised Care for Eating Disorders, we sometimes invite clients further along in their recovery journey to experience guided horse riding along the vast, windswept stretch of Noordhoek Beach.

The rhythm of a horse beneath you, the salt air, the crash of waves, and the wide South African sky can be deeply regulating. Horses meet us in the present moment; they respond to our energy, our boundaries, and our honesty. Learning to ride with calmness and respect often mirrors the inner work of recovery — listening to the body, building trust, accepting support, and moving forward one steady step at a time.

These are the kinds of experiences that remind us: life in recovery can be spacious, connected, and profoundly beautiful.

If you or someone you know is struggling with an eating disorder, please reach out.

"A Birthday Letter to Myself"

At Imani Treatment Centre, Specialised Care for Eating Disorders, we witness many courageous journeys of healing. Recovery doesn’t always come with grand gestures — sometimes, it arrives in quiet moments of reflection, like this one.

One of our clients, after missing many birthdays due to addiction and an eating disorder, chose to write herself a birthday letter — a gesture of self-compassion, honesty, and hope.

Shared anonymously and with permission, her words are a quiet celebration of recovery and a reminder that it’s never too late to begin again.

If you or someone you know is struggling with an eating disorder, please reach out.

A Journey of Hope and Healing.

“One year ago today, I arrived at Imani feeling unwell and overwhelmed. Yesterday, I graduated—I'm now officially a social worker! It’s bizarre how life can change. I'm doing so well: I’ve graduated, I have a job working with eating disorders, and I’m truly enjoying life. I’m even dating a lovely guy! 🥰

I feel beyond grateful for Imani and everything that has changed for me. Thank you!” 💖🙏🏻

🌊 We rise together. 🌊

Eating disorders thrive in isolation. They tell us we’re alone, that no one could understand. But healing happens in connection.

At Imani, Specialised Care for Eating Disorders, new friendships are formed, old stories are shared, and the heavy burden of recovery becomes lighter when carried together.

There is strength in reaching out, in standing side by side, in finding your people—the ones who walk beside you when the path is hard. You don’t have to do this alone.

We’re here. They’re here. And together, we rise.

🌿 Stillness is where healing begins.

In the quiet, we find space to reflect—to listen, to feel, to gently begin again.

At Imani Treatment Centre, we believe that recovery is nurtured not only through nourishment and specialised care, but also through moments of stillness and reflection—held gently by nature’s calming embrace.

Here, among tranquil spaces and natural beauty, healing unfolds softly—restoring not just the body, but the mind, heart, and soul.

🌿 Recovery isn’t just about hard work — it’s also about healing moments of peace. 🌿

After a week of intensive therapy, groups, and one-on-one sessions, our clients are encouraged to engage in something nurturing over the weekend.
Recently, a group visited the breathtaking Kirstenbosch Gardens — a tranquil, world-renowned botanical garden at the foot of Table Mountain.

The beauty and stillness of nature can be deeply restorative. Just walking through quiet pathways, breathing in fresh air, and being surrounded by life and colour — it all supports the emotional and physical journey of recovery.

At Imani, we believe in balance: structured therapeutic work during the week, and opportunities to reconnect with self, serenity, and simple joy over the weekend. 🌸

In Loving Memory of Bob
Our Beloved Companion and Senior Therapist 🐾

After many years of unwavering service, comfort, and companionship, Bob — our beloved dog and senior therapist — has crossed the rainbow bridge.

Bob was a steady presence in the lives of so many. He had an extraordinary way of simply being there — a quiet anchor in the storm, a warm body curled up nearby, a gentle reminder that we are never truly alone.

He offered the kind of therapy no textbook could teach — the kind born of instinct, devotion, and a heart wide open to every person who crossed his path.

To our dear Bob: thank you for the love, the loyalty, and the unspoken support you gave so freely. You walked alongside countless journeys and leave behind paw prints on every heart.

Run free, good boy. You were — and always will be — one of the greats. 💛🌈

Here are just a few of the special memories and notes of gratitude shared by clients:

“Bob was the one constant in my life—always there when I came home to Imani, whether from a meeting or just being out. He intuitively sensed my emotions, offering comfort on hard days, always happy, always close, and in time, he became like family to me. I’m so grateful for all that Bob gave—he truly did his job.”

“Bob was my pal. He truly was my friend. At first, I wasn’t so sure—but over time, I grew to love him. I fell in love with him during my time at Imani. He gave me purpose, always a reason to get up in the morning. I remember one morning so clearly—still half asleep and not really wanting to face the day ahead, I heard scratching at my door. When I opened it, there was Bob, staring up at me with those puppy eyes, waiting for his breakfast. In no time, I was up and heading to the kitchen.
Bob touched so many lives. He was such an asset to Imani, and he will be deeply missed. I know Imani, and especially I, will always remember him with love and respect.”

“Bob stood by my side through some of the hardest moments of my life—a true and faithful companion. His work here was done. Rest well, my boy.”

“I remember how terrified I was when I first arrived at Imani—but having Bob around made me feel so much more at home. Being trusted to help look after him, while learning to take better care of myself, gave me a sense of purpose and belonging. I will always remember Bob as an integral part of my recovery journey.”

“I had some very difficult times at Imani. Treatment wasn’t always easy—but Bob always managed to make me smile, especially during those early days. We shared so many walks—long, peaceful ones along the beach—and I’ll never forget our trip to Silvermine Dam, after that wild car ride with him barking all the way in the back seat. I can still picture him with his head out the window, ears flapping in the wind, tongue hanging out, absolutely loving the feeling of the breeze against his face. Pure joy. He reminded me how to find moments of happiness, even in the hardest times.”

“Bob couldn’t have been a greater support for me during my time at Imani. Thank you—I miss him very much. He was always such a happy chappie, especially when we went for walks on the field next door, and even more so when his friend Indie came along. I remember the day we got him his new basket—he was so excited! The pink one was for Indie, and the blue one was for him. But true to his nature, he didn’t mind switching or sharing—because that was Bob. Always ready to share, always ready to care. Thank you, Bobby.”

“My beautiful Bobby boy, he will always have a special place in my heart. The first night I arrived at Imani, he slept beside my bed all night, looking after me. From that moment on, he became my constant companion—my best friend—and he helped me through some of the toughest times in my life. I miss him so much… though maybe not his farts. Those were rather infamous!”

“Bob was a legend. He was there through it all, and some of my funniest, happiest moments at Imani always have him in them. My best memories feature Bobbles. He brought so much joy, even when he sneaked scraps of food he probably shouldn’t have had. Still, he never lost his energy, his spark, or his gift for making us smile—no matter what. He was more than a dog; he was part of us. So long, Bobbles. He’ll always be in my heart.” (Willa)

“Bobble—as I fondly called him—and his cheerful bark will always stay with me. Taking him on morning walks, making his chicken and rice, and giving him his weekly baths were some of the unexpected highlights of my time in treatment. He brought structure, comfort, and joy to my days. Bobble, you will never be forgotten."

“The hole you leave in my heart is filled with the memories of your constant love, dear Bob. I will carry you with me always.” — Alison Green, Clinic Director

🌄 Recovery takes courage — and sometimes, it means flying into the unknown. 🌄

This past weekend, a few of our clients went zip lining in the mountains of Grabouw — surrounded by soaring eagles, Cape fynbos, and the vast beauty of the Hottentots Holland Nature Reserve.

After months — even years — of disconnection from their bodies, this kind of experience is more than just an adventure. It’s part of healing. Part of trusting their bodies again.

At Imani, recovery isn’t only what happens inside the therapy room — it’s also what happens when we step out into the world and begin to live again. 🌿

From the Netherlands to Healing in South Africa 🇿🇦
An ex-client shares her journey to recovery at Imani Treatment Centre.

“When I look back to a year ago, I feel sad remembering how deeply I was suffering.”

After nearly 8 years of therapy, I still felt empty. Every day revolved around not eating and over-exercising. I was exhausted—physically and emotionally.

Coming to Imani Treatment Centre, (Specialised Care for Eating Disorders) changed everything. Through the support of Imani’s team of professionals, the community, the 12-Step programme, and my sponsor, I started to heal. I challenged my "food rules" that had controlled my life for years and reconnected with joy, freedom, and my true s

Today, I’m finishing my studies in social work and rediscovering the fun, social, alive person I always was underneath it all.

Recovery is possible. For me. For you. For everyone.
