Happy Friday, everyone! πŸ‘‹

The past two weeks at our iThemba Pre-School have been filled with creativity, preparation, and play. Our little learners have enjoyed painting, pasting, and storytelling - activities that nurture emotional expression and spark imagination.

Excitement is building as our concert rehearsals continue. Our teachers have taken on the roles of directors, guiding learners who are enthusiastically embracing their parts as actors, singers, and dancers. This process builds confidence and performance skills while highlighting the diverse talents blossoming within each child. πŸ˜‡

Play remains at the heart of our approach. Through guided activities and free exploration, learners continue to develop important social skills in a nurturing and engaging environment.

In addition, we would like to spotlight our staff Yve for his dedication in our school community. Since 2021, he has been a pillar of safety and care at iThemba, arriving early each day to ensure a safe and welcoming space for all. Originally from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Yve is a valued team member, passionate volunteer, and lifelong learner. His kindness, commitment, and bright smile are deeply appreciated by all of us. 🫢

Lastly, we would like to thank Woolworths and Premier Bakery for their weekly food and bread donations, Shoprite for the soup, and Kellogg’s for the delightful noodle donation that brought smiles and full bellies to our children. Thank you to all of our sponsors for their continued support. πŸ™

Happy Tuesday, everyone! πŸ‘‹

Over the past couple of weeks, our little learners have had the opportunity to engage in creative and exploratory activities, such as pasting, painting, storytelling, and playing. These activities support cognitive growth and imaginative expression. πŸ˜‡

There's also a lot of excitement as our learners rehearse for the upcoming annual concert! Their enthusiasm for singing, acting, and dancing is contagious, and we can't wait to see them shine on stage. πŸ₯°

We were happy to welcome Varkey and our board chairperson, Ian, to the school, as they brought renewed energy and engagement. The visit from Ada Nwajere, a former volunteer, was a special treat, with her presence serving as a reminder of the lasting bonds created through service and shared purpose.

Last Saturday, our dedicated staff met with parents to discuss our learners’ progress. The meeting was informative and meaningful. Sharing a meal together fostered rich conversation and strengthened the bond between the school and the homes of our learners.

Lastly, we would like to thank Woolworths and Premier Bakery for their weekly donations of food and bread, Shoprite for the soup as well as of our sponsors for their continued support. πŸ™

Happy Friday, everyone πŸ‘‹

After a three-week break, our iThemba Pre-School reopened this week with increased attendance and renewed energy. πŸ˜‡ Although our school stayed open during the break, fewer students attended as many children stayed home with older siblings. We are grateful to our dedicated staff who stayed on duty throughout the winter holiday, caring for and engaging with a small group of learners.
Now that the new term is underway, our classrooms are once again filled with cheerful voices and lively activity. 😊

We also had the pleasure of welcoming two wonderful visitors this week. The One&Only Hotel Group brought smiles to our learners through playful activities and delicious meals. In celebration of Mandela Day, learners from the International School of Cape Town joined us, creating special moments of unity and connection.
These acts of kindness brightened our week and reminded us of the power of strong community partnerships. 🫢

Thank you to our dedicated staff for their unwavering support. πŸ™

Happy Thursday everyone πŸ‘‹

Despite the cold, wet winter weather, the past two weeks have been filled with joy, energy, and connection. Our little learners participated in a variety of engaging classroom activities with their peers and teachers. Although attendance was affected by the weather, we are grateful to the many parents who continued to send their children, knowing they would be welcomed into a safe and caring environment. πŸ˜‡

Our little learners also received their performance reports, which gave parents valuable insight into their progress in physical, cognitive, and social development. We are proud of their growth and thankful to our teaching team for their commitment to holistic learning.

To end the term on a fun and cozy note, we hosted a Sleepwear Day fundraiser last Friday. Our learners and educators arrived in their favorite winter pajamas, celebrating warmth, fun, and togetherness with big smiles all around! πŸ₯°

Furthermore, we would like to thank our dedicated staff for guiding us through another successful term. πŸ™ We will be on duty throughout the winter holiday, continuing to support, educate, and care for our children.

Lastly, we would like to thank Woolworths and Premier Bakery for their weekly donations of food and bread and all of our sponsors for their continued support. πŸ™

Happy Monday everyone πŸ‘‹

We hope you all had a lovely weekend.

With the cold, wet weather settling in, it’s safe to say that winter has officially arrived. However, our learners continue to warm our hearts with their energy and eagerness to learn. πŸ˜‡

Last week was full of activity, from midyear assessments and skills development to joyful classroom play. As Mark Twain said, "Never let formal education get in the way of your learning." - a reminder that our little learners grow in every moment, both in and beyond the classroom.

As we near the end of the term, our teachers are working hard to compile progress reports that offer valuable insight into each child's development. We will share these with parents to support continued growth and learning.

We also took time to celebrate some special people in our school family: Ian, Sharon, and Sue Ellen, who all had birthdays last week. πŸ₯³ We send our warmest wishes and blessings for the year ahead! 🎊

Moreover, we would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to our teachers for their tireless dedication and to our wonderful community for fostering such a caring and nurturing environment. 🫢

Lastly, thank you to Woolworths and Premier Bakery for their weekly food and bread donations, and to all our sponsors for their ongoing support. πŸ™

Happy Monday, everyone! πŸ‘‹

We hope you had a wonderful weekend and a great start to the month.

Here at iThemba Pre-School, we have started our mid-year assessments to reflect on how much our little learners have grown over the past five months. πŸ˜‡
The assessments focus on key developmental areas, including motor skills, perception, language, creativity, music, and emotional and social development. It has been remarkable to witness the progress our children have made through guided play, peer interaction, and the nurturing support of our dedicated educators.

Last week's highlight was Character Day, when our learners came dressed as their favorite cartoon or book characters. It was a joyful celebration of creativity and self-expression - another great example of the power of play-based learning.

On Saturday, May 24, we held our termly parent meeting, which offered an opportunity to strengthen the collaboration between families and educators. These meaningful conversations help ensure that each child receives the support needed to thrive.

Lastly, we would like to thank Woolworths and Premier Bakery for their weekly food and bread donations, as well as all our sponsors for their continued support. πŸ™

We hope you had a lovely weekend!

The past two weeks have been filled with excitement, as our learners enjoyed fun games, outdoor play, and creative classroom activities with their peers and teachers. A special highlight was making Mother’s Day cards, bringing smiles and appreciation to the wonderful moms in our community. πŸ’ŒπŸ₯°

We were also happy to welcome Ms. Suzie Kietsman and Kim from the local retirement village, who kindly donated plasticware for our art classes - thank you for supporting creativity in the classroom! πŸ™

A big thank you as well to the workmen who helped with the maintenance and upgrades of our play park, and to the International School of Cape Town for making this possible through their generous funding. πŸ™

We are incredibly grateful to our amazing staff, both in the classroom and the kitchen, for their dedication and care in providing a safe, engaging, and nourishing environment for our learners. 🫢

Happy Friday, everyone! πŸ‘‹

Despite two shorter school weeks and an upcoming week-long break, our school has been full of activity and excitement over the past two weeks. Our learners have truly thrived, enjoying a number of fun and enriching experiences with their peers and teachers.

Some of the highlights included making beautiful Easter cards to take home and a fun Easter egg hunt. The clever hiding places set up by our staff, Lena and Charmaine, made the hunt a fun challenge.😊 With a little help from the teachers, every little learner found their treasure, making it a memorable day for all. 🐣

Our classrooms remained vibrant and alive, embodying the philosophy of learning through play - as the saying goes, "Play is our brain's favorite way to learn".

We would like to thank our teachers, Sue and Thandi, for lending a helping hand.

Lastly, we would also like to thank Woolworths and Premier Bakery for their weekly donations of food and bread, True North for the Easter eggs, as well as all of our sponsors for their continued support. πŸ™

The second school term has officially begun. While attendance is not yet back to normal due to recent events in our surrounding area, we remain hopeful and focused on fostering peace and stability within the Capricorn community. Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with all those affected.πŸ™

We are incredibly grateful to our dedicated staff, who have shown unwavering commitment and care during this challenging time. Their resilience and strong sense of community have been truly inspiring. Our educators have gone above and beyond, turning difficult moments into valuable lessons about respect, tolerance, and compassion.

Lastly, we would like to thank Woolworths and Premier Bakery for their weekly donations of food and bread, and to the International School of Cape Town for providing a cover for our sandpit, as well as to all our sponsors for their continued support. πŸ™

Happy Monday everyone! πŸ‘‹

We hope you all had a lovely weekend!

As we near the end of the first term, it's heartening to reflect on how much our little learners have experienced and grown over the past three months. It has truly been an enriching journey for everyone involved. πŸ˜‡

It's now time for assessments and our dedicated teachers are working hard, and carefully documenting their observations of each learner's growth. They focus on several key areas, including gross motor development, fine motor development, visual and auditory perception, and cognitive development.

Thanks to the remarkable efforts and dedication of our team, our learners are making wonderful progress in their developmental journey. We are incredibly proud of how far they have progressed, and we are excited to continue to support their growth in the coming terms. ☺️

Last month, we had the pleasure of welcoming our second group of Kolping students: Anuak W, Nipha K, Antonio W and Olis F. They had a truly enriching time interacting with our students and on their last day, they brought joy and creativity by treating the children to face painting. They also generously donated toys, for which we are very grateful. πŸ™ Their visit left a lasting impression, and we look forward to welcoming more Kolping students in the future.

Lastly, we would like to thank Woolworths and Premier Bakery for their weekly donations of food and bread, Shoprite Soup Kitchen for the soup, The International School of Cape Town for their donation of books and toys, and all our sponsors for their continued support. πŸ™

Happy Friday everyone πŸ‘‹

Our little learners have shown remarkable growth over the past two months, becoming happy and healthy social beings. We have introduced nap time after lunch and an aftercare class for children whose parents work late. The children love their teachers and enjoy their story lessons, rhymes, songs, arts and crafts activities, and especially the delicious meals prepared by our dedicated staff, Lena and Charmaine.

It is truly heartwarming to hear the excitement in their voices as they greet their friends in the morning - the days of tearful goodbyes are behind us! πŸ˜‡

Moreover, we had the honor to welcome Rosemary Muller from the Kolping Society, who visited us to assess our need for volunteers. Currently, we have four volunteers: Miriam, Sophia, Katarina, and Anmika assisting at iThemba Pre-Primary. In addition, the volunteer team from Cape Town International School visited to discuss future projects. They will also be participating in our Family Day event on Saturday, 29 March 2025, and we look forward to their involvement! ☺️

Lastly, we would like to thank Woolworths and Premier Bakery for their weekly donations of food and bread, Shoprite Soup Kitchen for the soup, The International School of Cape Town for their donation of books and toys, and Grow ECD for their kind contributions. πŸ™ We are so thankful to all our sponsors for their continued support! πŸ™
